Re: Looks like SHB have taken over, am I boned?

If you use a slide in IPM board under a screened bottom board it needs to be covered in oil, diatomaceous earth etc or the beetles will breed and feed on the scraps that fall through the screen and...
  4. Re: How do I Get Rid of Ants and Termites in New Hive? And a few new hive questions.

Get some ashes from a fireplace, burn pile, grill etc and put them at the base of your concrete blocks. Also put some in the holes in the block as well. The ants won't cross the ashes.

    Re: USDA pollinator program

You sound disappointed and let down.
Not to be throwing bombs here but I think having the good citizens of this country subsidize 35% of your land improvement at the tax payers expense is being more...
  10. Re: A little advice on a laying worker hive, please.

I went into the laying worker hive last night and there were three queen cells on the last (third) frame I put in. I cut them off and released the queen. I'll check the hive again next weekend for...
  11. Re: A little advice on a laying worker hive, please.

I moved the hive about 100 yards away and shook them out and placed the empties back on the stand. I put another frame of eggs and larva in the hive. I released the queen into a queen introduction...

Re: Beekeeping theraputic as a stress reliever

Even though it is only 10 miles from home a couple hour trip to my out yard is as relaxing for me as going on a short vacation. Everything slows down no rushing and anything not bee related is out of...

Beekeeping theraputic as a stress reliever

I started keeping bees as a recommendation from a friend for PTSD therapy. It has really worked well for me and I would highly recommend passing it on to anyone you know that might need some help....
  16. Re: A little advice on a laying worker hive, please.

For the previous California caged queens I bought I put a piece of marshmallow in the end after I removed the cork. Of course, the three hole cages all came with candy in one hole.

    Mr Bush, if...
  17. Re: A little advice on a laying worker hive, please.

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't know what a candy tube or release is. I have some old three hole cages I could transfer her to if I could get some attendants in there with her.
    If it ever stops...
  18. Re: A little advice on a laying worker hive, please.

Not what I wanted to hear but I can accept it. I ordered an extra queen to try and get the hive right. I figured it was worth the $22 the queen will cost.
If I shake the bees out and make a nuc can...
  19. Re: A little advice on a laying worker hive, please.

There were no queen cells on the first frame I put in. There was an empty queen cell on the bottom of the frame next to the one I put in when I put the first frame in. It was still empty Saturday...
