  2. Frozen frames with honey: how to execute giving back?

    Hi all,

I did a search to see if this has been addressed recently, but I didn't see any qualifying posts, my apologies if this is a re-run.

I have some frozen frames and would like to use them....

    Re: bad bee-mom

I waited too long myself this year, gave the small hive beetles a ton of room to roam and make themselves at home. I got rid of the super (surprisingly they cooperated quite nicely) and put a pollen...
  4. Re: Damp inner cover above top feeder and a little sign of mold. Remedies?

Sounds like maybe the syrup has gone bad.
What style of feeder is in there? Has it been on there for 13 days? Are they still taking it?

I would scrape off the mold, shimming was smart to do....
  5. Re: NASTY: Wax moth larvae AND fermented stores

Thanks for the responses. I will wait 24 hours to be safe.
I appreciate the link to Sundance's thread.

    Re: Newbie with questions

You remind me of myself! You may have taken care of everything by now, but I have some tips...
Please know that I don't hold myself as an expert, I've relied on this forum myself quite a bit. This...
  7. Re: NASTY: Wax moth larvae AND fermented stores

    Thanks for the reply, Gailmo!

This seems do-able. Do you think I can get away with 12 hours in the freezer?
  8. Re: NASTY: Wax moth larvae AND fermented stores

no responses yet... I've sprayed & cut out affected areas of the frames I believe salvageable. I am now drying them in the shed with a fan.
If i've done the right thing, how dry do they have to...
  9. Re: NASTY: Wax moth larvae AND fermented stores

I have also sprayed very heavily with the "stream" setting on the hose anywhere I saw any evidence of the trails of web.
  10. NASTY: Wax moth larvae AND fermented stores

    Hi all,

I had some dead outs that I tried my best to salvage while I waited for my new packages, but I did not do a good-enough job when I bagged up the brood boxes, which had some honey stores...

Re: Wisdom needed: Newbie mistake: Super still on

Tomorrow was the day I was planning on tearing it all down, my first day off since Thursday. (I may even hold a little bee funeral) I fear that doing this in the rain is probably not such a good...
  13. Dead bees, full frames: how to prepare all this equipment for new packages?

I posted a thread needing wisdom because I left a super on one of my hives. I got really great advice, and thanks to you all.

It seems as though I missed a much bigger issue. Both my hives are...

Re: Wisdom needed: Newbie mistake: Super still on

Ok, so in trying to look beyond my ineptitude, I'll post a new thread on what to do with the frames.

I'm not giving up. Ordered 2 new packages, but can't get them until 11 May.

    UPDATE: EPIC FAIL.:cry::cry::cry::cry:

DEAD. All dead. I feel like a fool! Here I was worried about the super, That hive starved, it seems. I feel so terrible. If only I had gone in there...

I want to check in on them, and we have had a few milder days here and there, but was afraid to pop the top off before now. Even still, today is in the 30s. 10 day forecast highest temp...

Thanks Sergie, that makes me feel better. I should learn to trust them more, that is also true. Their lives are important to me, and sometimes panic sets in.

    Hello all,

Last year was my first year, got my packages last spring. The year went well, lots of trial and error, but they were strong going into the winter.

    Re: Sugar treatment

Thanks Dan. I did the dusting, and left the sticky board over night. I spotted roughly 50 mites (on each hive's board). Not so panicked anymore. Appreciate the guidance!
