The hive has had a one-bee-sized entrance for weeks now to keep them at bay, but it looks like the hive is too weak to keep them fended off.
Is it possible to fix this?...
I remember chewing comb for the honey as a kid. Expecting to do that as an adult, too! :)

Scent rises in the day w/the heat and sinks at night in the coolness. Mice have pretty good sniffers so I would guess they can easily smell a hive from a distance let alone a few feet off the ground....
I did look for eggs, but probably not close enough (still learning what to look for). I could tell, however, that there was not a good laying pattern by what was capped. That plus the lack of brood...
Finally got the five largest combs of the ten tied onto bars this morning. Wondering if I should move the old, empty combs closer to the entrance as 2 of the 3 former brood combs are being filled...
That's good to know. I'll get the combs tied in tonight, thanks for the tip on spraying, too. Anything to give them a wing up for winter -- thanks!!
