  1. Re: Bees don't seem to like this plant, but butterflies love it. What is it?

The attachment hasn't been approved by the site admin yet. I don't believe it is anything Gypsi can control.

Thanks Peace. If I may ask, what month would you recommend I start my hive?

    Full sunlight?

As I have said many times, I plan on starting my beekeeping hobby next spring. I have decided on all 8 frame mediums, I have found a couple local beeks to buy nuc's from and I am researching where...
  6. Re: Taurus revolver: how do I remove the cylinder from the yoke?

Cute. Just one problem. A revolver doesn't have a clip.

    Where to buy Florida Nucs

Can anyone recommend somewhere in Florida to buy nucs next spring? I would prefer treatment free, 4.9 and medium frames if possible (not asking for much, am I). Any guidance will be greatly...

    Re: Crush and strain?

I want to thank everyone for their input. As a wanna be beek, I truly appreciate the advice. I checked on here and it doesn't seem like there is a bee club in my county. There is one in the...

    Re: Crush and strain?

I was thinking about uncapping the comb, then laying it flat on a rack with a collection tray underneath. I was hoping the honey would drain out of the comb that way. Has anyone ever tried anything...

    Re: Crush and strain?

I agree totally. I don't want to spend a ton of money on a hobby that I may not love. Making money isn't my primary concern, but I think any beek, hobbyist or professional, would be disingenuous to...

    Crush and strain?

I am planning to be a new beek starting next spring. I am reading as much as I can to prepare. I have read a few books that say you shouldn't expect to collect too much honey from a hive if your...

Good points Jason. I considered 8 frames and still would. Do those two extra frames make a big difference in the weight?

Thanks fish. I grew up in Palm Bay. Still own property there. I now live in Port Saint John, in the north end of the county. I am really leaning towards two mediums for brood and one or two for...

AB, I will try to make one of those meetings. It is a long haul across the state. However, since I graduated from UCF, I have always wanted to see the USF campus.

    Re: Fenced area

I thought of the fence because it would restrict his access. What I am afraid of is him pulling the top off of a hive and getting numerous stings.

I have pretty much decided on Langstroths. However, there are so many ways to put your hive together, deeps, mediums, shallows, eight frames, ten frames. My head is swimming! It is all too much...

    Re: Fenced area

How important is the direct sunlight? The area I am considering has a tree over it. I can trim it back, but with the fence enclosure, the hive would only be in direct sunlight during mid day.
