Re: Give away a few bees for apitherapy?

    Libhart,

You have a completely valid concern. Giving them to bees and letting them do the stinging themselves is the safest method. I have people come to my house every week to be stung by bees...

Re: Triple Deeps, Benefits of Larger Hives

I run a few hives that are 3 and 4 deeps tall with no queen excluder. The queen loves to lay all the way up and down the hive. I think this is great for the bees because it replicates a tree and...

Re: Top deep heavier than bottom=switch?

I would not switch them. Every bee keeper has their own advice, but the bees have been doing their thing for the last 20 million years and they know how to best organize their hive.

Re: How do you store Drawn comb?

I stored them on their side last year, but when I came back they were covered in mold from the rain and wind. I've talked to a few beekeepers that have built some elaborate storage devices out of PVC...

Re: How do you store Drawn comb?

Thanks for everyone's replies, I've contacted Sundance and ordered some BT. This will allow me to store the supers and frames at the apiaries instead of finding a special place for them.

How do you store Drawn comb?

    Hello fellow Beeks,

Once the honey has been extracted and the bees have cleaned it out, what is the best way to store drawn comb?
I've tried leaving the frames in the super and storing the...
  9. Re: What's the biggest mistake (s) you made starting out?

    Worst mistakes...

    1. Not providing a water source at residential apiaries and having to deal with neighbors because the bees were drinking pool water.
    2. Making my own bee vacum, and not testing...

    Moving a swarm

    Hello,

I caught a swarm today in a swarm trap (deep box) and I want to move it 30 feet from it's original location. I think some of the bees will want to go back to it's original location after I...

    Re: selling pollen

Bee bread is located inside of the honeycomb and is coated with a thin layer of honey to seal it. The best way from my experience to harvest this is to install foundation less frames, then cut out...

    Re: selling pollen

How did you harvest the Pollen?

Bee Bread (Pollen that has been processed by the bees is a lot more valuable because our bodies absorb nearly 100% of the nutrients.
    Pollen Pellets or collecting...

    Hello,

I have 2 beehives in my friends backyard. We've recently noticed that the bees have been more aggressive then usual. This is the only apiary I have to wear gloves at and the bees have been...

  19. Transferring a Deep Frame Nuc into Medium Supers

Re: New Split, Superseding the queen?

I agree that it's unusual, and yes it was only 1 queen cell on 4 frame medium split. I've added additional frames with drawn comb but they have not expanded to them yet.

    New Split, Superseding the queen?

    Hello,

I split a hive 2 months ago, when I opened up the hive to check it yesterday, I saw the queen, found fresh eggs, larvae and capped brood. I also found 1 capped queen cell in the middle of...
  23. Re: Very Strange Comb Building - I've never seen this before.

Thanks for the feedback, yes the foundation was wax coated and I made sure the 10 frames were packed together. I'll clean the comb off and let them at it again.
  24. Very Strange Comb Building - I've never seen this before.

    Hello,

I inspected a hive yesterday and was looking at the new Deep I added on the top a month ago. I wish I had taken pictures but I made an image to explain what I saw.

    The deep had 10...

    Re: Modifying plastic frames?

The bees may have room to walk around the edges and bottom of a frame, but in a natural feral bee hive, the bees create super highways between the combs by making holes. They can quickly get from one...
