I tried yellow clover this year. The girls love it and it looks really nice.
  5. Re: What is the best hive for a beginner to start out with

Yes. Just start. If your initial choice doesn't work out you can change to something else later. It might cost you a bit, but education and experience are worth paying for.

  9. Re: Anyone ever store their hives in a barn or greenhouse during the winter?

My bees are in an eight foot by twenty foot shed with a solid roof and a large open door. They seem to like the set up (there are 2 windows to help with cross ventilation in the summer). There is...

Re: Using aquarium water for bees

I have a stream on my property, but it is some distance from my hive. To see if the bees would benefit from something closer I bought a 1 1/2 gallon dog waterer. I filled the water tray w/ gravel so...

    Re: Just a thought

I agree with the others here. Don't sweat it! Learn from the bees. Maybe you're switching mentors and methods too often to give any system a chance to work. There is no one "right" way to keep bees....

Re: Should I feed dry sugar?

Yes. Feed it now, as there are still warm enough days that the bees will come up and get it. If you wait until it's really cold they won't break cluster and will starve inches away from it.

    Re: Honey Stick Display

Use a block of the foam that florists use for flowers. It's the light greenish looking stuff. Stick your honey sticks in it, upright, and when you sell a few refill the block using the existing holes.
