    Re: Euthanizing Hives with Mites

Sounds like shooting you cows instead of de-worming them.
    How did your children survive?

There are effective treatments for mites. Consider OAV for hives with high loads and re-queen to remove...

Re: Some cell size from inside a tree limb.

If the tree limb is a off shoot of the main hive that may not be abnormal. Drone comb is often placed in a location off from the main town of the cluster.

    Re: Bee style hive?

consider one 10 frame box of small cell foundation if you go with a "framed" type hive. It is so nice to use the foundation to start the bees building nice straight comb. once the foundation is drawn...

Re: Frame location in hive body

Might work where you are at.

Down here it makes the space between the last frame and the hive body too small for the bees to patrol it well against SHB.

Re: Queen Bees Control Sex of Young After All

Queens have always measured the size of the cell and decided if the egg will be fertilized while she is laying the egg or not.

    Re: Spider ID?

IMHO, any spider that size should die because they are deadly. It is not that their bite can hurt you it is that they can really make you hurt yourself.

    Re: 1st OAV attempt update

Always test a new unit in the open air where you can see it to time how long it takes to sublimate the OA.
Add 15 sec. and make that your cut off time.

    Re: Foundation vs Foundationless

If you decide to go "foundation-less", buy a small amount of the foundation you want(MannLake small cell)

Start you bee on that foundation. Then after it is drawn and has capped brood you can...

I would tell her that she is probably one of those very very rare individuals who should never eat honey. Offer her her money back. Then you can never see her again.

    Re: Backfilling Problem

There are some who think the reason they back fill more easily on hives with frames is that they have their normal tendency to expand the brood nest blocked by the 1 1/2 inch cell-less gap of the top...

    Re: Small Hive Beetle

    Mary, two points.

    1. if you see hive beetles in your hive it would be very wise to freeze the frames of comb for at least 3 days to kill any eggs the SHB have laid. And to kill any larva that may...

    Re: I am so conflicted

Kill it. Let it live somewhere else than your yard. The bees will there. If you don't kill it now it can kill everything else. Knew an old guy that made a round-up diesel mix and used that. Bird will...

    Re: The Great Dandelion Conspiracy?

Often it also has to do with the length of the flower. If the bee tongue is too short it will ignore the flower. BBee have a much longer tongue.

    Re: Duck Dynasty honeybee question

That type of hive is not uncommon but it is not the norm or avg.

I believe that it starts where a swarm lands during questionable weather or issue over the home they want.

  24. Re: End Bars: parallel sides vs non-parallel sides
