Re: I think my hives are doomed

What brand of solar fence charger are you using? If it's as remote as you say...........................I wouldn't be using a shotgun to 'scare them away' ;)

    Re: Huge Mistake = Robbing!

I did the same. Have 2 splits that I was feeding inside the hives, had a dearth, luckily I caught it the morning it started, and robbers were all over the new splits. So, I too smoked the crap out...
  4. Re: Overwintering with honey super on top - Good, Bad or Ugly?

I'm sure my winters are not as cold or as long as yours, but I run double deeps and a med super all year round. They do end up laying in that super, but it gives them more food in the spring. I...

Re: My smoking experiment - a fluke?

IMHO it depends on a lot of different factors, good flow going on, weather, temperature. Earlier this spring I didn't use any smoke on my 4 hives during an inspection, the planets were aligned just...

    Re: Wax foundation

I don't know about contaminants, I would hope the companies that sell it would test their wax. Anyway, I tried wax foundation this year. I did it like FBM youtube videos. Also, it can be hot where...

Re: It's 52 and raining in July

We didn't get rain at my exact location, but I saw some in the distance. Went down to 47 last night, high of 73 expected today. Rain is not unusual in the summer time here, but it is usually...

I've one green dot, one blue dot, and 2 that will get a white dot.
  11. Re: I am calling the dearth in the Pacific NW

You called it JanO! July 1st, I started feeding, nothing out there blooming. Hot and dry here.

    Re: Dearth and feeding ?

I would think that if there's a dearth, wouldn't setting up a feed station, well away from the hives, keep robbing at bay?? Since there is a source of food somewhere else, wouldn't robbing be too...

Re: How to leave enough honey stores

I wondered the same thing when I first started. If people say they overwinter their bees in 2 deep, 10 frame brood boxes, and the bees have built up 2 supers of honey, and filled the brood boxes,...

    Re: Costco Local honey, really?

I've only seen honey in Costco from other countries, not even U.S.A. honey. I tell everyone not to buy it.
  19. Re: What Price Should I Sell A Pint of Honey For

Man, and I thought the local honey at $15.00 a Quart was expensive, at the local farmers market  And that's California prices, ah, that may explain it, Calif has lots of colonies.

  25. Re: Cant Ship Queens In Priority Mail Boxes any longer????

I've received my shipped queens, and the shipper used a USPS cardboard ENVELOPE. Maybe that's it, you should have used one of their cardboard envelopes and not a box.
