Re: Finding eggs if a queen's not found

I'm in the same vision boat as you, but I don't bother looking for eggs or the queen. If I've got brood in various stages of development, then I know I've got a laying queen and eggs.

    Deep and Med foundation question

Both of my hive are (were) packed with honey with very little room for brood.
My question is, are the cell patterns on deep and medium foundation both the same cell size?
    I just finished extracting...

    Hello all.
I recently Requeen two aggressive hives and first inspection showed both were doing well with eggs and young larvae present in both hives.

    Re: Honey-bound hive?

    JCrossen
I just wrote about the same issue in the general forum. What I've done is put the supers and wet comb back on the hives for the bees to clean, repair and make room for the queen to lay in....

Honey bound hives need more room.

    Hello all.
I recently went thru having to requeen two hives due to aggressiveness.
In order to help me find the queen, both hives are 5 supers tall, I separated the supers with queen excluder so...

Sticky: Re: Today in the Apiary

Requeened two very aggressive hives a week ago, went into them today to make sure they were out and doing queen bee things. Didn't see either queen, but saw a lot of young larvae in both hives so...

    Best purchase ever!

Well I went back into my two really aggressive hives today to make sure the new queens were still doing OK after being introduced 2 1/2 days ago.
Removed the cork from the candy end an buttoned them...

    Re: WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Yes to both. I did get warm, but not nearly as when I wear a thick shirt to help with the stinging. Very nicely ventilated.
I'd buy another at the drop of a hat!

    WORTH EVERY PENNY!

    Hello all,
I've been having trouble with my hives getting progressively more aggressive over the last year, now to the point they are no fun to work. I spent the money for a BEEKool jacket with veil...

How to make the perfect nuc

I have two very strong hives that I want to start nucs off of with queens Im buying. What would the optimal mix of 5 frames be in that nuc? Due to a mild wet spring here, we still have plenty of...
  15. Re: When is it time to replace the queen? And best method.

Agree. I am having to requeen my hives this year because although they are great honey producers, very strong hives and very little mite population, they are way too aggressive. Otherwise as long as...

    Re: requeening two hot hives

Im wondering if I shouldn't cancel the order for queens and just do walk a way splits with both these hives and see if that doesn't calm them down.
Sounds like requeening is an iffy proposition.

    requeening two hot hives

I've got a few queens on the way this month to requeen my hives. Both hives are now way to aggressive for my comfort.
Both hives are full of capped honey, so my plan is this:
    Rob both hives,...

Re: Looking for advice on a new jacket/hood combo.

Thanks for the reply's folks. I now wear a hood at the minimum at all times around the hives. The girls now seem to go from "not a care in the world" to "flame on" at the snap of a finger.

Looking for advice on a new jacket/hood combo.

    Hello all,
I've decided to go away from my pith helmet and veil and go with a hood/ jacket combo. My biggest concerns are visibility and ventilation. Here in Tx it can get awfully warm.
