All,
I know this is a little early, ok a lot, but wanted to know what you think.
In light of the losses we saw this last winter do you think moving the hives to inside a greenhouse would make a...
Yep had that same thing the past couple of times, only 1 bee that likes to follow me for about 100 ft....like a stalker. Fortunately I walk fast and duck and weave.
Dogwood in bloom. Oaks stating to pop.
Pussy Willow in full, Magnolia and some Daffodils are starting
Ditto: Called Wildflower Honey.
Spots and bees dead outside are about a hundred, spots inside, I saw 2...yea that's nothing but I guess being a newbie I am over concerned.
All,
It has been a nasty winter this year, so far this year we are colder than normal.
Went back to look around the hive this afternoon and noticed many more bees dead out on the snow and...
Joe,
Welcome, you have come to the right place. The BKs here are a wonderful lot and always will to provide you with information and guidance.
As I have seen written here many times your first...
I have the white plastic frames and they work well. The bees take to them without issue and build them out well. Am in the process of building boxes for 2 more hives and plan on using the plastic...
Brian,
I have the bearding here also here in SE Pa. They were all over the front and the side away from the sun. I have always had a SolidBB so am curious as to why they are doing it now as they...
Thank you for your comments. I just wanted a second opinion to confirm my suspicions.
Thanks
All,
I need the opinion of the group here. I am starting to build hive boxes.:) I have a supply of pressure treated boards, 1 x 6. The boards have been out in the weather for about 10 years.
...
Looked at the hive today and here is what I found.
Configuration: I have two deep supers then a queen excluder and then a medium super.
The two deep supers are about 90% full of brude and honey,...
Thanks for the quick response.
Yes there is a second deep in place. I guess that could be a reason that they are consuming so much. So then my plan will be to cut them off and evaluate this...
All,
I set up my first ever hive this year and it appears to be doing well but wanted to float a couple questions past you?
The hive was started in mid-April with a 3 lb. package. Have...
Glad to hear that there is life in Pa. I will be starting my first hive in about a week. Am getting a package next weekend.:)
For my hive I did both a primer and a paint, both latex and both for external. Went with a 'Golden Sunrise' color.
Fred Bee, yep am well aware of the tilt of the hive forward. This is the first question that I have had as most of my questions have been answered by my readings.
As was said in other posts...
Guys,
Thanks :thumbsup:for all of your insight and as expected this is a hobby of Trial and Error.
So thanks for the info and the wisdom that you all provide.
I am still not sure...
I have separate boards, one screened and one solid. I can always modify the screened to make it a dual screen and solid.
Ahhh...so you have a modified screen bottom board, basically a screen bottom with a winter feature. :applause:
Good Day all.
This is my first year in beekeeping. Am getting a package in a couple of weeks and will be assembling the hive boxes shortly. All is well except that I have this one nagging question...
