Some of my hives do it and some don't. Mine seem to do it a lot more during a dearth.

Re: Intriguing Design for Trapping SHB

I have 2 on a couple of my hives. They do catch some beetles, but not all. I used them on a couple of new nucs, and the entrance did not confuse the bees at all, it may on a established hive. The...

Re: CAN I MOVE HIVES ONTO STANDS AT NIGHT?

I would not do it at night. I would do it during the day and use a smoker. The only way I would consider it after dark would be if I blocked the entrance. Not a good idea to mess with the bees at...

Re: Best way to move bees

I use screen across the entrance, and just a normal top cover. Be sure to use a ratchet strap to hold your hive together. I prefer to carry in the back of my suv, because I don't have to worry about...

    Re: Celebrity Beekeeper

Mr Freeman is one of my favorite actors, I like every movie I have seen him in. Glad to hear he is a beekeeper, seems to me like one of the few actors I would enjoy meeting in person.

Re: bee sting- 1st bad reaction

That is a good point Mr. Bush, I stay outside a lot and seem to have the bad habit of always finding the yellow jackets or wasp nest before anyone else. I almost always find them the hard way...

    Re: Hornets killing my bees

Without seeing photos, I would guess they are European hornets. They get big also, and they are all over here in the states. They will eat honey bees, but never heard of them being a big problem....

Re: Why do I not see Sumac yet?

I have some Staghorn, but most of the sumac is called Winged here. Not sure if that is the correct name or not. It has small leaves between the larger ones that look like small wings.

Re: Why do I not see Sumac yet?

I'm in north Georgia and it's budding now. I look for my bees to start working it in about a week. For my area mid to late July seems like when sumac usually blooms, so looks to be about right. There...

    Re: 2,4-D Herbicide and Bees

everything I have read says that it is no problem to spray. I use it all the time, but like you said I try to be careful around my hives. Poison ivy is bad around here also, if I didn't spray I would...

Re: When can I stop feeding?
