  4. Re: how do you not smash bees when putting hive bodies/supers back in place?

I think some folks use wedges that they place the returning hive body on, then work out slowly. You're still going to crush some bees though. There's just no way around it.

Re: Hive inspection and I found..........

Welcome from NE Kansas! My favorite text book is Honey Bee Biology and Beekeeping by Dewey Caron. The intro threads out here are excellent too.
  17. Re: 1 out of 6 hives bearding today , temp 88

    Re: Homemade/built 8 frame hive

Really nice job BR! That is a hive anyone would love to have in the garden or wherever. (they will build a little comb in the cover, but it's darn nice...wouldn't worry about it)

Ditto psfred. Do some searches out here for "bearding." You find a lot of interesting threads. (I think it's an interesting topic at least.)

    Re: Robbing ?

lowhog, did you check the hives later today? Did you see a cloud of bees, tumbling, fighting, wax cappings on the landing, and all that? That's robbing. I've never experienced skunks or critters...

    Re: Ragged looking comb honey

Adam, you might be being too hard on yourself. They look good to me. I may put some biscuits in the oven and get into my own stock after seeing these:)

    Re: Having a Mentor

I think I could have benefitted from a mentor for sure, but I'm 51, have kids, job, and the usual that we all have. There's no way I would have had time to really engage with a mentor. For me it's...
