  1. Re: What is a good price for empty paint cans for feeding?

Yes they seem to be about $5 at those stores, but of course I would save on the shipping.
  2. What is a good price for empty paint cans for feeding?

I have checked out a few different websites for prices on empty, epoxy lined paint cans. The best price I have found is $2.89 each for 34 ($98.26)but the shipping is another $47. Is this...

Sticky: Re: My Cell Building Methods

I would just like to say that about 3 weeks ago I grafted some queens using the methods described by Larry Connor and only had 4 cells get drawn out. Granted I may not be the best grafter but I...

    Re: Requeening above an excluder

Thank you for the comments, my main reason behind it is to avoid pulling 100-150 lbs of honey off each hive to remove the excluder. But I will do it if I have to, thanks again,

    Requeening above an excluder

I remember reading a thread a few years ago, which I can't find now, that you can place queen cells in the supers above an excluder and the virgin, being smaller will go down through the excluder and...

    Re: Wintering Nucs

Does anyone have any pictures off their bottom boards for 4 frame side by side? I have a general idea of what I am going to do but would like some thoughts. Thanks,

  8. Re: Statistics of new and total beekeepers, estimates of nuc and queen sales

I am planning on selling some over wintered nucs around dandelion and then splitting some of the overwintered nucs that I did not sell and breaking up unproductive colonies in late May/early June. I...
  9. Re: Statistics of new and total beekeepers, estimates of nuc and queen sales

Just to update everyone, I have come out of the worst of winter with 10 hives, I ended up combining a couple before winter really set in that I did not think would make it. Bees are bringing in...

I understand that we are taking apples and oranges, but I have bought and sold (for my day job) insurance agencies. We value them somewhere in the ballpark between 1-2 times annual gross income. ...

    Queens still laying in CT

With temperatures approaching 60 today, I pulled some frames to see what we had for stores at this early part of winter. Several hives had hand size patches of brood on 2-3 frames. Eggs as well, I...

    Re: Nuc prices for 2016

I feel that as a community off nuc sellers, which I am looking to get back into, we owe it to each other to continue to push prices as high as people are willing to pay. That is what the package...

Poll: Re: Do you Build or Buy your Hive Bodies?

I am new to woodworking, and can do enough to get by, but I am wondering why a router would not work, or is not recommended when making the rabbits and frame rests. Thanks,

[QUOTE=Oldtimer;1352885]....There is a catch 22 with this. A big drawcard will be if you can supply treatment free bees. But this is also the downside. If you go treatment free you may also lose bees...

Re: Nuc Box Dimensions for the top deep

ok, so just for confirmation the 4 frame deep supers dimensions are 9.5" X 7 3/8" X 19 7/8" and the bottom divided deep has a divider 1.5" thick, everything used is assuming 3/4" wood. Thanks,
