    Re: Neighbor Issues

I've not been a beekeeper for very long and I've only tried to catch a couple of swarms, but the amount of fear and misunderstanding I've heard this spring alone about bees swarming and what they'll...

    Re: Freight costs.... awful

I would rather pay more money per product and a fair shipping cost than to save a dollar or two on frames and foundation only to be gouged on shipping.

    Re: Wax Scrapings

I save mine in a jar then melt them down with my solar wax melter. I use plastic foundation and use that wax to melt down once again and paint onto the plastic. The bees take much better to it.

    Re: bees robbing

I had a bad problem with robbing a month or so ago. Took Mr. Bush's advice and built some robber screens, this slowed most of it down. I also used the Beekeepers for Dummies approach of draping a wet...

    Re: Smoker fuels

I cut up old burlap sacks that used to ship fencing parts. A few thin strips, easy to light, and they smoke longer than it takes me to check my 4 hives.

I've also used the cedar shavings and...
  6. Re: Introducing a Store Bought Queen into a Wild Hive

Can you explain this a little more? Thanks!
  7. Re: Update on 2 tree trapouts - need advice

Could it be possible they are hot because they're queenless right now and when one of those cells emerges they'll calm down?

    Re: Unmated queen

I went through a similar situation with a virgin queen a little while back. Constant rain kept her from mating, I panicked and ordered a new queen, and when I got back in the hive to find and remove...

    Re: Hive stand plans?

I dig things out level and lay down some old roofing tiles to keep weeds from growing up. Then I stack some concrete blocks, two blocks high and two blocks wide, and put the hives on top of that. One...

    Re: Freight costs.... awful

I had problems with Brushy Mtn. too. I placed an order and over a week went by with no word. So I called and very politely asked for an update and the woman on the phone yelled at me and said I...

Re: Hillbilly Honey Harvest - any ideas?

I'm a Hillbilly, and all the other Hillbilly beekeepers here use 4 or 10 frame extractors. I would recommend that.
  12. Re: Either my bees are thirsty or my feeder leaks.

I use a quail feeder about the same size on the inside of my hives with a super over it to keep robbing out and my bees can go through one a day so I think it would be possible they're storing it all...

    Re: how much Lemongrass oil

I put a couple drops on a frame I lowered onto a swarm that had collected on the side of a brick building hoping it might attract them to it. I started with frames of drawn comb that used to have...
  14. Re: questions to experienced at trapping out

I'm in a similar situation. I can put some porter bee escapes on two entrances in a concrete block wall and put a nuc box on a latter that will be two or three feet below those entrances. If the nuc...

    Re: Running out of frames

I sympathize with you Marc, I'm having similar problems. I don't have any drawn comb to coax them with and I've had an empty super of foundation that I've sprayed with HBH multiple times and they...

Re: New Bee Movie - Documentary

Yeah, that's a pretty standard thing, especially for small film companies and non profits. The cost to make a film is pretty insane, even a small independent film. So to help offset some of that cost...

still fighting the robbing, but i went through the hived swarm today and saw the queen! She had a very large abdomen, but no eggs yet. Doesn't a large abdomen usually mean she's mated? Anyway, I'm...

Thats been my preferred feeding method as well, the baggie feeder. I didn't think to feed the large colony as well maybe I will give that a try and see what happens.

    Captured Swarm, Splits and Robbing

Hello again everyone. I was lucky enough to capture my first swarm a couple of days ago. There is a wild hive living in the cinder blocks of a church and they swarmed last week and I couldn't get to...

This hive seems to gather quite often on the porch like this. My other 2 hives do not. Just wondering if anyone knows what they are doing or if there is a purpose for this. Sometimes it's slightly...

Honey from bees who were fed?

    Hello,
I took over a friends hive and on top of the brood chamber at the beginning of spring was a medium super about 2/3 full of capped honey. I fed these bees sugar syrup, about 1.5 gallons over...
