Bees Buzzing Outside Light at night ??

I have an outside light between my bee yard and barn ( the kind you buy and put up on a pole yourself). I would guess it is about 20 ft from the hives and not very tall. It has been there for about...

    Re: Treating new bee packages

hmmm, I've always thought package bees should have fewer mites than purchasing a nuc or full hive with brood involved. I've never used OA, it sounds interesting.

    Re: SC Beekeeping Blues

Well folks, it is cold up here in the NW part of SC too. Got off to a good start with dandelion, henbit, red maple. Now the maple is all bloomed out and it is too cold to fly. I have a few new...

    Re: Bee-sentials book review?

I have this book. I felt it was definately worth the money. I would characterize this book as beginner +, there was definately some intermediate, advanced info and the pics are very nice. It would...

    Re: Hows the sourwood flow

I live in the NW part of SC. My bees do harvest some sourwood each year. It is not as pure as in NC but usually does have the buttery swd taste. They have made alot of honey during the swd bloom...

    Re: after the harvest questions...

I have always stacked mine up well away from the bee yard and let the bees clean them. No problems for me. I dont place them on the hives for clean up unless I had one for each hive and then only...

    Re: A few More

I have used Api Life VAR, Apiguard and MAQS. All worked fine.

I like the MAQS best as it had less trips to the hives (not because of less work for me but less stress having to open the hive). I...

    Re: Swarms and SHB

I agree they are horrid things. I have not lost a hive to them yet but I really try to stay on top of things. I did not know that they traveled with the swarm.
  15. Re: When can I treat for varroa, and what would be best this time of year?

I know some people had issues but for me... MAQS worked fine. I used it during the hot summer (had 3 days of cloudy weather with temps below 92) but still very warm. I had no noticeable bee kill...
  16. Re: Lost all three hives. Diagnosis help needed!

Lauren, You are very close to me "as the bird flies". It is very possible that you didnt do anything wrong, though I have no experience with TBH.

Re: honey frames in frig ?

Well, I dont have a beer fridge but I do have a "creamed honey" frig. So I do use it (the freezer part) to freeze a few frames at a time. Just not enough room to leave this batch in there :)

    Re: Robbed hive

I just gently swipe off some and dont try to get them all out. I just tear up things when I try to get each one. The new bees will remove them.

Re: honey frames in frig ?

    sqkcrk,

You obviously have a lot of bee experience. Can you explain, how putting the honey on the hive..under the bees would be any different than over ? They would still have the added area to...

Re: honey frames in frig ?

Hmm.. I was wondering about that Rusty. In the past, I have always had enough freezer room to handle my frames. This is the first time I've had this issue. :)

Thank you for the comment. I do have other hives but didnt want to put too much "area" in the hive as the clusters are small. I havent seen any damage during winter either but I was hoping to...

    Re: Creamed honey too thick

If you stir it up, does it reharden ? I've never had that happen with it out on the counter. If it is hard initially, once stirred it stays spreadable for me.
