    Re: Bee and neighbor problem

My neighbor said the same thing. "Your bee stung me." I asked him what color? He answer was, "black", and that they had made homes in his garden soil. I showed him my insect book and was able...
  2. Re: On the natural cell size of European honey bees

I guess my bees didn't get the memo to build larger cells.

    Hurricane

Anyone have a system for tying down their hives during severe tropical storms and hurricanes? I live in an area ( north east coast) where we do get hit by them. I was thinking of placing 4 posts on...

    Re: Checking hives without gloves?

No gloves. I usually get stung when I am rushing. The stings are a little reminder to slow down and be in the moment.

Does the notch face up like a U or face down? Does it matter?

    10 frame split into TBH

Next spring I would like to split one of my 10 frame hives and transfer to a TBH. I guess I would follow regression or do I just shake them in?

Re: New Zealand Bees Are Unbelievable

Who did you buy the bees from?
  12. Re: Noob mistake...Mixed full frames with empties and now in stuck...literaly! :-(

Can you put 8 un-drawn frames in a 10 super? I read somewhere that might encourage them to fill in the gaps.

    Re: Brood pattern, New Queen?

Old one. Just decided to give it time to clear up before re-queening, like you and some others suggested. Firing on all cylinders now!

    Thanks

    Russian Queen

Looking for a Russian Queen. Anyone have an opinion on a good source?
  18. Re: Had to kill a colony... depressing. Can I reuse the comb?

Wow. Sorry to hear about this hive. I would just get rid of the honey/combs, especially if most of it was not capped. Honey is hygroscopic. Start over. Any thought that these may have been taken...

    Re: Brood pattern, New Queen?

I hear you. It's tough though. If it is the Queen and I wait another two-three weeks, I am way behind. If its not the Queen, assuming ( I hate to assume ) the new Queen is a perfect fit, then I am...

    Re: Brood pattern, New Queen?

LOL. I was just turning it so my son could get a picture. I am taking pictures of both sides of all frames in this hive to analyze in photoshop on superzoom. The brood are mostly worker.
