    You can apply a standardized quick knock on the hive and register its response.
    This way you can compare different hives.

    I always use my simplest stethoscope in the nighttime.
    Background noise is minimal. Weather should be not windy.

    You will have many dead bees on the floor. Bees begin to crawl at about 8°C under the cluster. I am not sure. Maybe it was 7°C.

    "No entrance reducer = much more hive activity and looser cluster."



    The hives are so near to each other. Without entrance reducer the neighboring bees stimulate each other and feel annoyed.

    Please try red LED light bulbs or stripes. LEDs are monochromatic.
