Re: SHB trap - new thing on the market (australia)

I had some correspondence with Dr Jamie Ellis at University of Florida on this topic. I am sure that he would not mind if I quoted what he said...

As to making some sort of plinth or barrier...

    Re: Nice Bees Turned Angry

To my inexperienced eye the hives looked normal. Plenty of new comb (nice and neat) and honey making activity and brood in the brood box. I do get SHB but my trap counts average 2 or 3 a day per hive...

    Re: Nice Bees Turned Angry

I have in two hives my back garden. The first hive swarmed in spring and I was lucky enough to catch them when they parked themselves in one of our trees. That started ny second hiave off. After...

Re: SHB trap - new thing on the market (australia)

Does anyone know if SHB larvae leave the hive to pupate at regular times eg. when it's dark or in daylight only or at anytime?

BBC Knowledge (Aust & NZ 612 on Foxtel) recently showed a documentary made in 2008 about how they collect the honey from the combs from cliffsides in Nepal at around 1500 metres.

    The title was...

Re: Is this the answer for small hive beetles?

Thank you for all your hard work and the time and money you must have spent on this effort.

I take your point. However whatever is done, especially at the commercial level, has to be...

    Re: What is this?

    Thanks to all who responded.

I did get my mentor to come and have a gander and we looked at the outside of the hive and he thought that everything was OK. The plan was that we would have a look at...

Re: Is this the answer for small hive beetles?

Is there any evidence that this has any efficacy? If the beetles are in the area, they will will fly in to the hives anyway. Killing off one generation of SHB larvae from a dead hive won't do much...

Did you publish the results of these studies? If so I would be interested in reading them.

Re: Is this the answer for small hive beetles?

This is corrugated plastic or "Corflute" as it widely known.

Are traps made from signs promoting a particular political party more efficacious than others? ;)

There is a video on You Tube...

    Re: What is this?

It's very nearly summer here - but really there is very little difference between late spring (Oct/Nov) and early summer (Dec/Jan). I mean you may get hot periods followed by cooler ones, humidity...

    Re: What is this?

Haven't touched the brood box since the swarm was put into it in October. so it might be the latter.

Could robbing bees damage brood comb?

    What is this?

I was watching my hive this evening. Three times bees emerged with one of these in their clutches The first two dropped off the platform to the ground and wrestled with it before taking off with it....
