  3. Re: Anyone ever use a 3rd deep brood chamber?

In my limited 3 deep experiment (I have some 2 deep and some 3 deep going on year three) the 3's are ahead of the 2's coming out of winter. I saw drones in January and the 3's are making the most...

    Re: Community feeders

As long as you're confident there are no other beekeepers with 5 miles of each yard it should work. Otherwise someone else is getting free feed and a super full of sugar syrup :(

Re: Advice Needed - Hauling Nucs

5-7 hours? I did Georgia to Jersey in the daytime in April. I just strapped them against the tailgate, got them home, and turned them loose. Just do it and good luck! Oh almost forgot, bees can get...

    Re: Polar Vortex states

I never understood why stove manufacturers list how many sq feet the stove will heat. Does it heat 4000 sq feet in Green Bay, WI or Jacksonville, FL? Where was it tested that it heated that amount...

Re: Need Help! Just Inherited 50 hives

Remember, the bees don't realize they've been neglected.
  10. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

Re: Does anyone in the north use 3 deeps ??

Sometimes I can't either but I find if I rock the hive ever so slightly they come to life with a definite roar.
  13. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

In the FAQ's on their web-site they say it takes the bees a day or so to uncap the empty cells for refilling.

  17. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

Imagine if Beesource existed in the mid-1800's and L.L Langstroth posted that he had invented a way to keep bees, manage bees, collect honey and pollen, and he could do all of this without...

    Re: Grants for beginners

This is what my wife and I did:
We saved up enough money to buy two nucs and equipment. It took us 6 months but it was worth the wait as we used that time to educate ourselves about bees. We...

  24. Re: Bees have ALL moved to the top sugar shim in both hives

Oh ok. You had posted that you put a nearly empty very light box on top and then the sugar on top of that.

If it's full of honey; why the sugar?
  25. Re: Bees have ALL moved to the top sugar shim in both hives

I wouldn't have reversed so soon. Make sure the bees are in contact with the food supply. This next cold snap starting tomorrow and lasting for a week is supposed to be the coldest of the season here...
