Re: Hive removal from tree being cut down

In most feral hives; the entrance is at the top of the colony.

    Good luck.

    Re: Storing frames and boxes

Try in a yard barn or just under some type of cover. Try to keep them out of your house due to all that wax and left over honey will draw unwanted critters.

    Re: honey comb

In my experience, the first year is usually spent drawing out comb and getting any honey stored for winter. they should start getting the honey stored any time now. Check the 2 deep's you have. They...

    Re: Bee-Swarm-Neighobors

I believe you would get blamed even if you didn't have a active hive. A lot of people in the cities are just going to blame beek's no matter what for them getting stung. Try to tone it down if...

Re: Ear Wigs annoyance or a conern?

There has been a thread on here about erwigs taking out SHB so I would think that the bees have a beneficial relationship with them. If you would keep us informed of any changes I would like to hear.
  10. Re: STUPID,STUPID,STUPID, I cant believe I'm so STUPID!!!!

I wouldn't worry about it, I've see many colonies built in the branches of tree's and are open to the elements.

    Re: First trap out

I'm not sure yet. I'll know more in about a week when I open up the interior of the motorhome. It appeared to be getting dropped just before they went into the entrance (I know it's still nector)....

    First trap out

659865996600Hi everyone, I kept bee's when I was younger (20 yrs ago). My next door neighbor whom I also work with, told me about a swarm that had gotten into his motorhome through the electrical...
  14. Re: Something got my hive: Suspected critters and how to recover it if even possible?

Wait a couple of days then check for the queen, can your tbh frames be interchanged with the lang hive? if they can use a frame from one of them to help boost/re-queen the lang. As for the bear; two...

Re: Typical Reaction to Bee Stings.

Some people start to develop a sensitivity over time to bee stings, i.e. the more stings the more sensitive you become. If you love the "girls" as much as the rest of us and are having trouble with...

    Re: queenless package

If you can spare a frame of eggs from one of the other hive then try putting one of them in the queenless one and hope they will re-queen on their own. Or you can choose to combine the hives until...

Re: Have a swarm caught the queen help

How big is the piece of lumber? If it is small enough; put it into an empty super set on top of a deep super.
  18. Re: Lots of drone crawlers (but NO workers) on ground. What gives?

I could be the ladies threw them out. It's not unheard of when a colony is running low on resources and they feel they have a good queen. you won't know more until you open it up.

Re: Carpenter ants under top cover

Try using small coffee cans under the legs of the hive with some vegetable oil in them. Did you see any ants on the frames or foundation?

  21. Re: Person wants their swarm back - Would you give it to them?

If you want to keep the piece then also offer to look through her hives for any more queen cells. And you never know; this may be the start of a nice "first date".
