i would think the stinger would have been in your ear if it was a bee, did you find that ?
I used a paint roller tray worked well
I have no issue harvesting honey from frames that once held brood some of the more squeamish might
I couldn't agree more that everyone should be able to voice their opinion, just be careful how you do that so it doesn't appear you are speaking from experience. people come here to get advice from...
Beepro your profile says you are a first year beekeeper but you seem to have strong opinions you freely share . Don't you think more experience would validate your ideas prior to sharing them as...
sorry JMGI i have very good hearing and my experience differs...
You can feed it to your other hives unless you think the dead hive was diseased
I have some Maxant tools and they last for as long as I can find them. they do seem to hide very well however since they disappear regularly :(
Started winter with 23 hives, lost 2 so far but a couple more looking a little weaker than I like. Still have March to go.
The cost around here is pretty much the same. 100 for a package 115 for a nuc go figure
Better bee
Mann lake
Kelley's
All sell them
no, they have to be grounded the bees are fine
Two years ago I had a hive i couldn't hear a peep out of for a month, when I went in to take a look in March it had a pretty healthy population and was ready to go. if the bees are clustered tight...
I think all you will get with this approach is a mess of comb attached to the hive body on the sides since there is no side bar. will not be able to inspect without ripping that comb apart...
I purchased 2 from him in 2011, had some splits and they are all doing fine, nice bees...
Other than lifting to check weight I would not do anything unless that indicated an issue. It is going to be cold this week so the less disturbance the better. I have never used smoke in the winter.
the bees are not going to let the fly into their hive unmolested, i don't think you have anything to worry about except the neighbors
yes they can and will start laying a little brood about now
So I could expect a non-treatment keeper with a badly infested hive to euthanize it rather than spread those mites to mine? Seems a stretch but would seem fair if he thinks he has a say in my...
I only treat when counts indicate it is needed and then use "soft" treatments. However, I cant get my arms around people not treating at all and somehow expecting the bees to toughen up and figure...
I got curious because the treatment sounded so easy and cheap (my two main requirements!) so far it appears a gray area as far as legality goes and I might be constrained from putting pure on my...
This is probably a stupid question but is it legal to use this in our hives ?
I think this is very similar to Michael Bush's approach which I am planning on trying this year. 2012 was a year of the swarm for me so I am hoping this helps!
What are you trying to prove ? I don't see many indicating that small cell is the panacea for mites but that it is part of a larger management plan. As such rather than trying to prove the efficacy...
