    Re: Box's sticking together

I also paint the edges also, being in the rainy northwest I want to protect the edges. After they have dried I wipe the edges with mineral oil or vegetable oil, this seems to cut down the sticking....
  2. Re: Would you set up an apiary near a golf course?

I have a few hives next to a nice par 3 course. Have not had an issue yet.
Best thing is I get a small bucket of errant balls a year.
I am amazed ago how far they go off course.

The site is a little slow for me to click-through. Don't know if that is my connection or your server, I think it is me. Had not seen the old version so it is hard to tell.

    Re: Bee swarms Washington St.??

Have had several here in the western washington area already, I think they are just starting the heavy swarm season here.
I am seeing in my hives that if it overwintered it will swarm soon.

Re: Anyone find comb in their bee packages?

Yes, in about 40% of the packages this year. Always adjacent to the queen cage.

  7. Re: Paper wasp nest started in my bee package???

Sounds like the package bees had started drawing comb in the package. They usually do this next to the queen. I found about 1 in 4 of my packages had this. Biggest one i had was about 3 x 4...

Re: Adding 2nd caged queen to package

They may have been balling her because there was already another loose queen in the package. (I have heard about this but have not seen it myself.)
If they have not drawn out queen cells in the...

Re: Eyelets stick to eyelet tool

I had the same issue. I ended up filing the punch down a little, worked great since. I set the eyelet with one tap with the hammer.

Re: Dog kennel to keep bears out

I have had trouble with bears at one of my locations. We did exactly this, a 6 x 8 kennel that was staked to the ground and screwed into the adjacent barn. I don't feel it is bear 'proof' but it...

Re: Found ticket to commercial success...

Without a label they should be marking it down a lot more than $7. It 'looks' like an exterior paint since I can't imagine using a baby blue semi-gloss inside.

    Re: Placing Hives

I like to space them 2-3 feet apart. Mostly so I can use the adjacent hive as my work surface as I do an inspection. Never really had much of an issue in drifting from one to another.

I'll second that. Anne did a great job for me and best of all put up with my nitpicking on various changes. The labels look great and came quite quickly.
