  1. Re: Will I need another box after the dearth for the fall flow?

I run all 10 frame mediums. They all had the fourth super (honey super) added about a month ago. The honey supers are all full. I will place the fifth under the now fourth this week. Wild flowers...

    Re: Hive Stands?

The original beekeepers bench was built as an inspection tool and was made from 1x4's. This was built with 2x4's it appears. Honestly, I have built a few of the beekeepers benches and they will not...

    Re: New Hive question

He is one sloppy commercial beekeeper. Consolidate the hive as much as possible. Too much space will demoralize the bees and the queen will quit laying. Is there eggs in the comb cells?

Re: Time to gather smoker fuel

My go to smoker fuel is old 100% cotton jeans. Lights quick, doesn't soot up the smoker, stores clean, and smolders for hours.

What was the flooring space like above the hive? How about the ceiling space below the hive?

    Yes. No problem.
  13. Re: 36 hours between pulling supers and extraction

I've left mine in the basement for months before extracting. No issues.
  14. Re: Medium deep brood box FULL of capped honey.

Yeah... it's either mediums OR deeps. If it is mediums, three of those make up the brood chamber eveything above that is honey storage. If it's deeps, two make up the brood chamber, honey above. Add...

Re: Newbie in need of advice please: brood box getting filled with honey!

    1. Stop feeding.
    2. Extract the nectar from the drawn combs in the first deep.
    3. Place the now empty drawn frames back under the second deep.

Re: Brush, fume board, or bee escape?

Bee escape board. Place under the honey super, wait three days and remove the whole super. Easy. No leaf blower, no brush, no flying ticked off bees. Works better on cooler nights.
  17. Re: Removal from downed tree in Winter Haven, FL

Nice removal as always Pat. Out of repellant huh? Same here. The Fischer's Bee Quick was ordered a month ago and is on back order. Grrrrr. One gets used to using the repellant and then has to revert...
  18. Re: How far away could/should our nuc yard be from our bee yard?

Since bees fly up to 3 miles to forage, 500 yards would be a hop, skip and a jump for them to commence robbing. I have good success making nucs right next to my strongest hive. I simply do not feed...

Re: Can a hive be to big?

A hive can only get so big UNLESS it has two queens. At some point, right around 50k or so, the bees die at the same rate as the queen is laying so the hive will plateau at some point population...
  21. Re: How does it work in a hive in nature? Honey on top or bottom???

    Feeding bees....

I have seen several posts on hives that are now "honeybound" due to the fact that beekeepers are STILL feeding their bees sugar syrup. Bees are wired to store nectar (sugar syrup) and will continue...
  24. Re: Bees dont want to move up into the 2nd deep

Stop feeding. Your hive is honeybound and will soon perish. There is no room for the queen to lay. You NEED to add a box ASAP of drawn comb under the deep that is full of sugar syrup.

Re: 2nd Hive Body Full of Honey, No Brood?

Oh... your hive IS honeybound alright. Feeding a hive should only be done in an emergency. Such as in March (dry sugar). No need to feed when a nectar flow is on. Stop feeding right away. Place...
