    Re: Pollen Patties Question

Place them under the inner cover right on top of the cluster. Only put enough food the be consumed in about a week. You may need to put a 2inch shim to get it to fit under the inner cover. I make...

    Re: shakeing bees

I would shake them into another box on top and do a paper combine.

    Re: Safe swarm capture

No way to tell. I like in Texas and I run across hot bees quite often but not usually when you capture the swarms. A cut out maybe but swarms are still pretty mellow. You have to be careful once they...
  8. Re: what is your guys opinion on these hives.

No way. The only way to rid AFB is burning it and all of it. Once you burn it then bury what may be left so bees don't come to the wax.
  9. Re: Needed! Beeking advice for high dessert NV

What is your night temp? I missed the part where nights are freezing. In this case make sure they have enough food and wait a while. This is just what I would do
  10. Re: Needed! Beeking advice for high dessert NV

I look for bur comb. It will be white. They draw fresh comb when there is a steady supply of nectar. You can always add and check back in a week or 2 to see if they draw any out. Temperatire of brood...
  11. Re: Needed! Beeking advice for high dessert NV

I have had a booming of bees coming out of winter too. I have not added a box or super yet because I have not seen nectar coming in. I have pollen but the nectar is short coming right now. Mine are...

    Re: Beekeeping Books

This is true. I have read on here for years and have learned from good advice and bad advice. A lot of what beekeeping success is generated by your ability to accept that it may work for you. You do...

Re: These bees wanted an entrance reducer.

Odfrank, curious to know if that came off a more aggressive hive. I had one that was hot as a fire cracker and sealed up almost the whole entrance. Just curious if there was a relation since none of...

    Re: Honey?

It largely depends on area. I sell hand to hand at $8 a lb and farmers markets for $10 a lb. This gives me a little extra cash for the time spent at the booth. I had a guy tell me once that he could...

    Inspection in Texas!!

I took a look at a few of my hives at one of my locations and they look great! I fed the nuc and one other hive. They had brood that had just hatched and plenty of capped. I saw a few drone cells...

    Re: brood, brood, brood

I do feed my nucs throughout the winter but about 1-2 mason jars every 3 weeks or so. Not on to warm of days because my larger hives will rob it even with a reducer.

    Re: Foundationless or using foundation?

Your gonna get a slew of opinions on this. I wouldn't go with that pro and con chart. I have had bees do the opposite of what sovak said. I had one give last year start with 2 1/2 frames of bees,...

Good idea. I think I'll borrow that idea and make one. I have a milling machine that I can make a neat one with but I like easy and this is easy!! Great job!

Re: Vaporizer made with pic and info

Very neat idea. Any reason why you just didn't get a flat piece of copper? Also, how long did it take to vaporize? Do you think you may need 2 glow plugs or would one suffice?
