    Re: Swarm lures

Are you saying that others are putting LGO on an absorbent (like a paper towel) and then zipping it closed in a zip-lock bag to extend the effectiveness of LGO?

Or do you know how people are...

    Re: Swarm lures

I understand "assuming" is dangerous, but here is a situation where believing it is sealed makes sense. For it to last the amount of time described by Grant, the fact that he mentions a zip-lock bag...

Re: where to buy large bags of sugar?

If somebody is foolish enough to bring up politics in a beekeeping forum, then be(e) prepared for the sarcasm. Let's just stick to bees on this website and in this post, the price of sugar. Sheesh.

Re: where to buy large bags of sugar?

Don't forget the dufus TAX... which is assessed on all those who complain about taxes while gulping up all the services they pay for and benefit from.

Please leave the fact-free political cliché at the coat check before you enter the premises. This isn't a Faux News forum, it's about beekeeping and unsupported rants are not welcome.

    Fumagilin-B past expiration, still OK?

    Hello,
I've got a bottle of Fumagilin-B, which has an expiration date of 2010 on it and is caking up in the jar. It's been stored in a closed container, inside a dry, dark refrigerator.

    Is this...

Re: Recombine hives? or kill off swarm?

IMO there is no way the swarm will survive, as there isn't even comb in that box. Swarm in May load of hay, Swarm in June... blah, blah, Swarm after July, time to say good bye?

    From the day they...

Recombine hives? or kill off swarm?

A friend of mine in Minnesota has a hive that swarmed in late August. He caught the swarm and put it in an extra deep box with new foundation, but no built up comb.

The flow is done. The frost...
  9. Re: 2nd yr. hive going downhill in MN: What to look for/do?

    OK, here is the update:

2nd year hive had no queen.
Purchased a new queen and was able to get a small nuc for just a tad bit more... made it worth it for the extra hive strength.
    Successfully...
  10. Re: 2nd yr. hive going downhill in MN: What to look for/do?

Finally finished inspecting the hives and sad to say, the 2nd year hive in trouble was delayed until just this afternoon. Here is the post-inspection proclamation:

Well... no doubt about it, this...
  11. Re: 2nd yr. hive going downhill in MN: What to look for/do?

Oh yeah... one other thing and this could/is huge. I've been incredibly frustrated by the lack of comb, but today my friend (who is pretty much in the same shoes I am and is a neighbor) called up a...
  12. Re: 2nd yr. hive going downhill in MN: What to look for/do?

    I am happy.
Looks like a number of things are all coming together at one time and one without the other would not have solved anything.

Soooooooo glad I decided to contact the forums. I see some...
  13. Re: 2nd yr. hive going downhill in MN: What to look for/do?

Once I hear what to do about the adjoining frame burr comb (across the gap) will do full inspection, checking for brood, colour and report back, hopefully with a picture.

    Then will see what...
  14. Re: 2nd yr. hive going downhill in MN: What to look for/do?

Good point. I agree and do not know.
We opened the hive up and have burr comb crossing between frames.
This cannot be good, but what do I do? take the frames joined together and cut them apart?...
  15. 2nd yr. hive going downhill in MN: What to look for/do?

2nd year hive in Minnesota clearly going downhill and I don't know what to look for, so don't know what is going on, what I can do, or what I should have done. One thing is clear: bee traffic is...

Re: Used equipment near Mankato Minnesota

    Thank you for the reply.
I do not have an extractor, but need honey to extract and a thriving hive to get that... hence the need for hive equipment.

Am now shying away from used unless I am sure...

Re: Used equipment near Mankato Minnesota

Just curious how things are going?
I'm located south of Mankato one hour and interested in other people's experience. We have one hive, but thinking it makes sense to have 2 or 3 as it does not...
