    Re: Cut out Question

I bought a 'Bushkill' bee vac (10 frame) then made a eight frame. They allow me to place cut comb above the box with the bees & change boxes for additional bee removals. I like the control they allow...

    Re: The newest issue

I just had the same issue. I didn't want to not use the new queen, so I took one frame brood & bee from the week hive & two from the stronger + to empty frames . Made sure no queens came with them &...

    Re: Honeydew

There are also 'Other' insects that produce a sweet byproduct that bees will collect & they are lumped into 'Honeydew' out here. This is a bug in the bark of a white oak that produces a foam & clear...

    Honeydew

Just got back from a Swarm Call. It was a live Oak tree with LOTS of Honeydew & the bees were having fun with more feed then they could haul away!! I told them to wash the tree down every AM & PM...
  6. Re: Adding supers and going foundationless question

A wood strip has a guild with wax rubbed on it seams to get them started quicker. Like Rob's plastic strips.

    Re: Where is the Queen?

She will most likely be on a frame that has a LOT of bees, not frames with only a few.

Start away from where you are standing and work the frames toward your self. This was the single most helpful...

Use a camera that has a back view screen helps. Also working without gloves is a must, if you are uncomfortable with no gloves then wait till you are.

    Re: Audio Books?

There are 'apps' that will 'read' a text document to you if you don't mind computer voice. https://openlibrary.org/ & http://www.gutenberg.org/ have 'open' books that you can down load & read free....
  11. Re: follow up to two trap-outs, two questions?

Maybe more then a few HOURS. Sometimes the work can take longer then you want!

Do the cut-out, if there is sheetrock inside, that will be the easiest to repair. Tarp rugs before opening the...

Re: Brood boxes frames stuck together

Suit up use a little smoke & slow down. Some hives just fly a lot when you open them up. Some are just mean! If you feel safe you can deal with whatever you need to do.
  13. Poll: Re: Do you believe that glued frames are stronger than non-glued?

There is one very good reason (?) for not using glue on hive bodies and frames. If you have a frame or a hive body that needs repair it is much easier to repair the frame without scraping old glue...

  18. Re: Hi There! I'm moments away from ordering a complete hive kit! Any Advice?

    Order a...

    Re: Assembling Hive Bodies

I don't paint the edges so I can stack the fresh painted boxes cross ways on top of each other without them sticking to much.

  21. Re: Small bees in my hive - don't appear to be newly hatched

Could also be bees from 'small cells'. I've one hive that I'm trying foundationless & the bees are getting smaller in the whole hive. About 75% of the hive is 1/2 size & they seam to be doing great.
  22. Re: I caused one of my best queens to get killed!

Gene there's a color code for the year the Queen is born/Marked in. So an additional reason is to keep track of Queens that are multiple years old.
