  3. Re: overwinter nuc location and configuration

My plan is similar except I plan on double deeps with a medium of food. All of the reading that I'v done indicates that in my zone it should work. There's a fella in Hudson WI that that has posted...

    Virgin queen size question

My bee math says i should have a nearly hatched or a virgin running around one of my hives.

I took a look today and I think i saw a newly hatched queen. My doubt is that she is just a tic larger...
  7. Re: I asked my wife to take notes while making splits

Radar...This said swing set did send my daughter to the ER for a broken nose. She had an idea to snow sled between the posts....yep face first into one of them :pinch: . I then moved it 75' farther...
  8. I asked my wife to take notes while making splits

  10. Re: How to repel or eradicate nuisance Honeybees?

I cannot believe that beekeepers actually made some of these comments. In my opinion its our job to be the "diplomats" between non beekeepers and the bees!!

I have a neighbor that has a large...
  11. Re: Default Do you think this colony is with Queen?

I don't have a TBH so I cannot give any advise on how to set them up.

It looks like your queen is laying in most all available cells so that's good

Because of the angle of the pictures I...
  12. Re: Default Do you think this colony is with Queen?

After 2.5 months you should see plenty of capped brood. Don't get hung up on finding the queen just look for evidence that shes there. ie eggs, larva, capped brood. You will need to inspect this hive...
  13. Re: How do I get last bit of honey from cappings?

    >71b ?? don't get this one? Is this a type of yeast?<

Yes its a strain of yeast

    >I guess the lees would float?<

The lees will sink to the bottom of your container

    >Would it be possible to...
  14. Re: How do I get last bit of honey from cappings?

I second this with one exception, I use 71B-1122,

I did let the bees clean up some cappings ONCE. Two of my nucs didn't survive the melee

Re: laying workers and a new queen

    Hi,
I have one that's doing that now. (A lot of eggs at the bottom center)
I have read here that a new queen may sometimes get a little excited and lay more than one egg per cell. I plan on waiting...

My neighbor said he was allergic to bees a long time ago. So I knew this before I decided to keep bees. Last year I asked him if he was ok with me keeping bees in my backyard. He said that was a...
