    Re: Brazilian Jataí stingless bees

OSafado- the bees belonged to a farmer cooperative, and they had about 50 boxes with at least 3 different bee species, mostly Jataí.

gone2seed- yeah. But I bet there was also sweet, sweet honey.

I love the color of the Linden honey that just came in from our backyard hives, so I took a photo comparing it to the late summer wildflower harvest:

    Re: Genetics

Most of our North American bees are mutts to some extent, no matter what breeders sell them as.

The "Italian" bees here certainly aren't the same genetic mix as the originally named Apis...

Although I don't sell my honey, I've found the Illinois State Beekeeper's Association to be generally helpful, and the State Bee Inspectors to be knowledgeable. I'd try contacting those before...

I've always balked at making T-Shirts, as I don't think photographs adapt to the medium quite so well as simple artwork.

  21. Re: What kind of bee's are these? Do i need to be worried about my families safety?

That's a sand wasp. Don't worry about them- although the females can technically sting, they are much more gentle than yellowjackets, hornets, or honey bees and won't sting unless picked up. I'd...
