  1. Re: trying to create a discussion about queen castle/hotels

The castle has 4 entrances. If you use it in the 2 five frame configuration (just the 1 divider in the center) Then that leaves 2 entrances per half. Front right and side right and rear left and...

    Re: bee stings

    you should go to your doctor and ask them about it. Reactions to stings are as such;

localized. where the site of the sting swells a little and itches (kind of like a mosquito bite)

    large...
  4. trying to create a discussion about queen castle/hotels

I just got 2 of these and I am using them in the 2 five frame configuration. My purpose for them is to try my hand at raising some emergency queens for those late season emergencies. If all goes...

    Re: Electric Fence

I use the zareba fence charger. I opted for the strongest one they had at tractor supply . It's 10,000 volts and 2 Jules. I believe it was just shy of 200.00. I never noticed a spike in the...

    Re: Pre swarm activity?

I thought that at first too, but they weren't coming and going. I couldn't see 1 Bee enter anywhere. Just flying around. And then all of a sudden, they were gone.

    Pre swarm activity?

My bee yard is about 50 feet from my house. Just noticed a bunch of bees hanging around the roof. As if they are orientating to the right 3rd of my house. Not landing, just flying around. I'd say...
  8. Re: Hive check report - queens shutting down already??

I noticed this a week or so ago. I didn't ask anyone about it because all 7 hives seemed to have slowed down a bit. I figured it was normal and just made a note of it.

Sooooo, you will be going in to disturb the hive then. I say, go grab a cool glass of lemonade, relax, and watch your bees come and go from the outside. Then come Saturday, go into the hive and...

Re: Intro of a queen question

In the future. Before you install the queen cage, lay it on top of the frames and observe the bees. You can usually get a read on them before you even place the cage inside. That would eliminate...

I wouldn't even check today. In your particular situation, it's just a normal queen intro. I just pull the cork, do not poke a hole in the candy, and install cage between 2 frames. I come back...

Re: Intro of a queen question

To answer your initial question, the queen will be fed by attendants through the cage for quite some time. I don't even check on queens for release for a minimum of 10 days.

    Is it possible your...

Can anyone repost this picture with these 2nd and 3rd queens circled? So far 1 queen is prominently displayed on this frame (right and center).

Re: Help, wiring an electric fence

I would play it safe and go with 3. If you go along the 20 foot section, it works out well. 1 at each corner post and 1 dead center. I got lucky and got 2 rods in 5 feet and cut a foot off. The 3rd...

Re: Help, wiring an electric fence

I'm sorry, I forgot to address ground rod placement. Install the first one near the fence controller then 10 feet between each rod. They sell the ground clamps at tractor supply as well.
