  1. When do the bee supply companies have their sales?

I've read in the past where different bee supply companies - Brushy Mountain, Mann Lake, etc - have different sales for supplies (usually in the off season) - like this time of year.

    But I've...

Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

Wednesday evening 08/26/15, I went to check on a hive that had a very small group of bees inside it from the swarm on 08/15 that landed on a limb and then went back into their original hive. This...
  3. Re: opinions on 2 full entrances?

Since I keep my bees inside an old barn (and they are out of the weather) usually once they are taller than 2 deep hives, I either slide the 3rd hive back a little, or I leave the lid in the front of...

    Re: August swarms?

aunt betty, I doubt your hive is AHB. You are too far North and most AHB's throw smallish swarms - or so I've heard.

I'm sure they were mean in part due to being queenless. But, it could very...

Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

When I called the guy lastnight about the swarm on his shed wall, he said the majority of them were gone and only a handful remained. They must have found a new home.

Got a call this morning from...

Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

A guy in church told me he got called and picked up a swarm on Saturday 08/09/15. He apparently had some trouble catching it as first it was in a bush about 5' high. He shook them onto a blanket...

    Re: Bad queen?

Pinch her and after a day of being queen less, give them a frame of eggs from your other hive.

To keep the amount of bees built up in the queen less hive, keep moving frames of capped brood over...

    Re: Swarm surprise

You need those remaining 7 frames in the hive NOW!!! Chances are, the swarm is clinging to the top cover and making comb.
Suit up, jar the lid before opening it to dislodge the swarm from the top...

Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

Reynoldsville, PA 15851 on Sunday June 14th.

I guess that is one way to start beekeeping, although I would prefer to have some beekeeping experience first.

You do realize most bee removals require working at heights - a first story roof if...

    Put the hive...

Didn't happen today - but several weeks ago our bee club was offering Carnolian queen cells - several people were placing an order for queen cells so wanted to include everyone if they wanted any.

  17. Re: Literature to appease concerns about a hotel rooftop hive?

How many stories high is the hotel? Are there balconies to the hotel - or the classic - can't even open a window - just run the heat or air conditioning?

Sticky: Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

  24. Re: MANY, MANY Swarms this year. Would you agree?

No swarms around here that I've heard of. In fact, I haven't heard of ANY swarms in Pennsylvania yet. The closest I've seen is Ohio.
  25. Re: My swarm is now in a bee tree

I agree with Cleo, leave them alone and just keep swarm traps out in the area - you will have a constant supply of new swarms.
