    Re: Moonbeam stock

VSH is used by the many of the USA's largest beekeepers in their queen breeding programs.

No snake oil, no mythology, just hard work and perseverance.

Re: Introduce virgin queens of a different strain

We ship day-old virgins in JZBZ cages with 7 attendants. The attendants care for the virgins. We've had pretty much 100% survival shipping this way for over five years. Try using attendants when you...

Re: Introduce virgin queens of a different strain

I've kept my mouth shut on this topic till now...:)

Virgin queens produce pheromones used in survival that mated queens do not produce. I did some research on this years ago--didn't publish, but...
  4. Re: Harvesting and Preserving Royal Jelly for Grafting

Joe, interesting. Virus by itself can't live for too long outside of a host. I wonder if the guy you mention was reusing the cells immediately? I'd think boiling old JZBZ cups to clean them would...
  5. Re: Harvesting and Preserving Royal Jelly for Grafting

It wouldn't. However, background populations of Black Queen Cell Virus are present in most bee populations. I can dredge up a reference if you want, or you can look it up.

    We've had the gracious...
  6. Re: Harvesting and Preserving Royal Jelly for Grafting

Sadly, another downside to priming with Royal Jelly is that it may significantly increase one's chances of getting a Black Queen Cell Virus breakdown.

    Re: VSH Breeding?

    Hi Joe,

We *do* select for VSH behavior. We use two specific tests, and we use gross selection: we choose our breeders from breeding candidates that perform well without any mite treatments.

I was wondering when you'd post about this! :D

We now perform two tests in our breeding program that select for VSH in addition to other economic traits. We use a large population and have an...

    Re: Cordovan, Italians and Pol-lines

We can custom make AI breeders that will produce mostly Cordovan colored workers, but we charge more for 'em because the cross requires more intensive drone selection (color).

    Johny,
Thanks for describing this. How did you make the drain? Was there already a fitting installed on the tank to attach the hose to?
How do you fill the tank? How does it ride in your truck?...
