Re: Bees finally, when to peek?

Thanks for the input. I will open the hive when I get home today. I'll pull the cage. If she's out, I'll close up the box; should be in and out in less than a minute. I'll go back in this weekend to...

Re: Bees finally, when to peek?

I could have gotten 3 packages for what I paid for this "nuc". I'm giving the seller the benefit of doubt since the pickup was delayed a week because of weather. In the future I will stick to...

Re: Bees finally, when to peek?

That is what I paid for and was expecting. There were 4 frames of honey and capped brood, but no laying queen.

    Bees finally, when to peek?

I picked up a Nuc form BWeaver Saturday morning and hived them around 2:30. I was disappointed to see the queen was in a cage. On closer inspection, the candy side cork was removed and a tunnel was...

Re: Anybody still waiting for packages?

I was suppose to drive to Navasota to pick mine up tomorrow. I've received notice that due to cold, windy weather, they won't be ready until 5/11. Its cold and windy again today, going to the low...

  8. Re: Its that time of year for the Annual Ollie OD Frank swarmathon competition

This is my first year to try trapping a swarm. I built 5 traps and baited them with a vial of lure and a few drops of LGO. They are basically over sized deep 8 frame hives. I used untrimmed 1x12's....

Re: so far no takers what's up?

I'm way south of you, near Houston. I'm new to swarm trapping. I build five traps so far. I used 1x12 lumber and built 8 frame deeps without trimming the wood down, so I guess they are super deep. I...

    Thanks!
  11. Re: Back in the saddle... (Houston, Tx)

My parents live south of Hobby, just inside the Beltway from Pearland. I placed two swarm traps there. Their Orange trees were covered with bees a month ago, but nothing in the traps yet!
  12. Re: Back in the saddle... (Houston, Tx)

I'm off 290 inside the Beltway. I'll be driving to Navasota in a couple weeks to pick up a Nuc. How are your bees doing? How often do you tend to them?
  13. Back in the saddle... (Houston, Tx)

Getting back into beekeeping after a long absence. Dad, kept bees, so I was always around them. I kept a few hives in the early 90's and gave up due to mites, etc. Ended up living in apartments a few...

Re: Anybody still waiting for packages?

I will be picking up a Nuc on May 4. I put out 5 swarm traps at the end of March - nothing so far!
