    Re: Vaporizing wet OA

Thanks, Richard, I was hoping you would post. I probably wouldn't live long if I were a chemist and my patients wouldn't live long if I were a doctor.

    Re: Vaporizing wet OA

Not a chemist, but there is a process to drive water out of baking soda to make washing soda that would probably do the same for clumpy oxalic. Bake the oxalic in the oven on a cookie sheet for one...

Re: Warm hives as opposed to ventilation

A study done by Kraus and Velthuis in 1997 and cited by Z Huang states that varroa reproduction is greatly reduced when humidity is above 80%. The reason for the late season effect of failure of...

Re: Solar wax melter design with light bulbs??

There was a thread, not too long ago, talking about the high efficiency of using steam to recover wax from brood combs; you won't achieve that with dry heat.

    Re: December Pollen

Not that everything is blooming now or will, but what happens in the spring when trees that have broken dormancy now lose their buds? Another crazy spring. I've seen a freeze come after trees were in...

Re: 4 Frame Supers on top of 10 frame boxes

Welcome. Your plan sounds doable as long as you maintain the proper beespace, but inspections of brood chamber may get interesting as far as space requirements and bees on sides of boxes where two...

Re: 7/8 in. Entrance For Bottom Board

Maddy, those are nice looking bottom boards. I wonder tho, if interhive robbing started, how many bees would it hold?
I'm confused by the last photo where the drawer is slid out, the holes on the...
  9. Re: How to know if honey is bee original or mixed with Sugar?

Welcome, the best policy for buying honey is to know the beekeeper. Unfortunately, it is difficult for anyone without a laboratory to know what is in a sweet liquid as there are many types of sugars...
  10. Re: Are cedar shavings harmful to bees in a quilt box?

I used cedar shavings last year on a couple of hives with no problem, and on all hives this year. Thus far they haven't absconded and should have no problems with moths.

    Re: MAXANT 3100H

mg, I was referring to the OP's post, since you can only do three deeps at a time. If it takes 10+ minutes to do six at high speed and less to do three at low speed, both the foundation and his arm...

    Re: MAXANT 3100H

You didn't say, but obviously you have medium frames. I have a "P" and chose to do just six at a time, so I wouldn't have to stop and flip the tangentials. Don't know what it would be like to crank a...

    Re: Are these Honey Bees?

Because they are a native bee, all the more reason to protect them. They are good pollinators, often working blooms honey bees have no interest in.

    Re: Funny honey label

Good luck with that. In this case honesty may not always be the best policy. It is more correct than a graphic I saw of a bee in an upright stance peeling honey.
  15. Re: Double screen between laying worker hive and queen right hive.

I have no experience with this situation, but it sounds like a good solution. Would it be better to put the queenright box on the bottom to allow the pheromones to be carried up by the natural air...

  21. Re: Typical compensation for extracting someone elses honey?
