Re: "I have honey bees that need to be removed"

I got an email about a tree cutout in Friendsville, MD. That is too far for me. PM me if anyone is interested. The owner would like to place the bees in a hive and keep them, if possible.

Re: another cut out call, and a question

I have two similar hives to yours, both from cutouts of newly established swarms. Both are small and light on stores and brood. I plan on trying to downsize them back into nucs, as my first attempt...

Re: Anyone made a Hex hive

Check out my photo album in my profile. The one I built is similar to odfrank's, with frame in the middle and top bars on the outer angles.
  4. Re: Best smoker fuel I have ever found, what do you use?

Oak planer shavings, packed down on top of a hot bed of coals from oak kindling will last for hours and hours.

I collected thousands of seeds last year and spread them all over my farm. So far, it doesn't look like any of them are growing, but I still have hope. My elevation may be keeping them behind the...
  6. Re: who else supplies frames designed for foundationless use.

I snap off the wedge and tack it back, but in the vertical position. I don't know where I heard or read about this method, but it works very well. Also, my grandad likes to use foundation, so he can...

    Re: Thermal Imaging Camera

I just purchased one of these, and it worked like a charm. It's already located the center of two hives, and kept me from doing any extra damage than necessary.

Check out road banks for seed pods in the fall. You can find an endless amount of Asclepias tuberosa, syriaca, and incarnata. I have gathered and planted thousands of each. All of them are great for...

    Re: Flower ID please

It's called Swamp Milkweed here, Asclepias incarnata (I believe.)

There are several very similar species in this genus.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Cut out vac question.....

In my neck of the woods, cutout bees get downright nasty, regardless. It would be nice to see someone like jpthebeenman on a local cutout here, to verify it isn't just me.

    I have been using the...
  12. Re: Tree trap out - found a virgin queen today - flew off the frame

Quick question about your setup.... Is your box attached to the tree, with the funnel coming directly into it? I am trapping bees out of a tree in this fashion, and would love to get the queen.

Thanks for the quick replies. I hope a swarm didn't check me out and then move in somewhere else. The activity has noticeably decreased since I posted this thread, and no swarm has shown up yet.

I use the hole in the top of some hives now, but it simply rains too much here, so I have to use an extra box and cover to keep the water out.
