    Re: Help moving Swarm Trap

Just a token amount. The 50 -55 degree mist is just to convince them to go inside. I use it on late caught swarms when the temps are so high that there is night time bearding and hence no easy time...

    Re: Help moving Swarm Trap

Now that you have the vac, consider adding to your arsenal a big spray bottle of refrigerated water with a dab of sugar in it. Patiently and slowly mist the bearded bees. They will start moving in...

    Re: Southern CA Desert Swarms

Last year was the 4th of drought conditions here. Caught 2 swarms. Okla also lost something like 62% of hives over winter 2014. This year my brother and I caught 27 between us. I think it illustrates...
  7. Re: Best smoker fuel I have ever found, what do you use?

Dried cow patties or horse dung.Slow smoulders and stays lit forever. It's organic. It's the perfect fuel if you're on a farm or have access to it. Just use a dab of hay to get it started.

Re: drastically lower wild bee populations?

  9. Re: re - orientation of vertical comb into strips for Langstroth frame?

    Exactly. Thank you Radar.
  10. Re: re - orientation of vertical comb into strips for Langstroth frame?

From what I've read they will abandon comb wrongly oriented. What I do is staple 1"x2" rabbit wire on the frame. It is bent in a "U" shape so that you can stab the comb on. That way you can load them...

Re: Scout bees measuring my swarm trap

I believe if the conditions are right that there is a waiting line forming. Case in point.... Set a trap at place of work 5-17. Pulled a swarm out 5-20. Reset it 5-23, pulled swarm out 5-26, reset...

    Re: What's going on?

Ok I have pupae on entrance. 4 this morning. How do you tell worker from drone ? Compare size with worker bee ? That simple ? And if it is worker pupae then varroa is prime suspect ?

    Black bees

Has anyone experience with black bees? These girls are totally black. I've seen the pics on Bush Farms And they have some banding. As far as I can tell these do not. 11017
