Hi,

These have actually moved dirt to enlarge the entryway.

I was just contacted to help do a cut out under a shed. The odd part is that the bees are entering the shed floor by going in a crack under the shed foundation. 1/4 inch tall, with the ground...
I have not seen a queen. I never see queens, so I really have no clue.
Dave
Did you find out what was causing the queen to lay like that?
Dave
Yep. Too bad I'm going outta town for a month :-/
It looks kinda like the picture. Not as many eggs per cell though. The hive has a number of bees, but not so full as to swarm(imho), and its down to like 26 at night here(bad time to swarm). I...
Hi all,
I just finished inspecting my NUC (nice warm day here) and found that they have brood now(yay!) I found 1 frame with about a 5 inch circle of brood and eggs. The odd part is that the...
I was watching a video on youtube about lasers as I was reading this and thought "HA! High power laser pointers!!" but seriously, how about a 500w work light, and a magnifying glass? Carefull not...
Are you sure she is gone? My hive has no eggs, and I cant find my queen(but I can never find her). I'm making the guess, that shes just not laying due to it being winter.

I freaked out over the same thing a couple weeks ago. I'm out in San Bernardino County.

Someone mentioned to me to feed warm(daily) syrup in an old squeese ketchup bottle. Small ammount, and easily moved.
Thoughts?

Unfortunatly this is the only hive I have in this location. (caught a swarm) I didn't even see any "inspections" going on by guard bees. Didn't really seem to be any guard bees. I closed up the...
I have a hive in a "remote" location(my second house) and recently was there doing some work. I noticed that the hive was being robbed ( it looked like 50 robbers doing the zig zag flight path) ,...
I'm looking to find a source of local honey near Pelion SC. Some where up to 100 miles. (my family travels frequently, and I could arange pickup)
Price is dependant on the size of container. 5...
I'd love to see the plans from this thread put on the front page of beesource, in the "build your own" section.
Dave
possibly, but I know some honey robbers wont drive the bees off the brood.
You can get a tank of nitrogen and flood the trunk with that. Its completely inert, and wont harm the honey. There IS a danger of suffocating yourself though. You will need a regulator of some sort...
thanks. Just trying to make sure I dont need to take special steps when requeening.
Dave
Yep, guessed that one ;P
I planed to try Cleo Hogans trap out method, to get a "package" of bees, and add a queen to that package. Once that hive has some brood I can use, I plan to come back...
Yep, none in Solano. I just bought 5 acres in the Mojave desert.
well I am in a AHB area. The tree they are in can't have a big cavity(its only 2 ft high and 6 inches around). It sounds very much like the type of space AHB are know for. I'm not sure wich type...
I seem to recall, but can not find somone saying that requeening a africanized hive is tougher than requeening other types of bees. I have a feral colony on my property that I am considering...
What I am worried about is squishing the queen in between comb while removing the frames. There are no frames that can be removed without destroying comb.
Dave
I think I'll try smoking her out as soon as the weather get stable. I wouldnt want to smoke her out, just to have her not be able to stay warm. I'll put a deep on top with foundation and see if I...
