Re: How Much Gear Ready in Advance?

If you have limited storage space, yes, you can certainly have too much.

Re: Hello Post from Nova Scotia

    Hello!
    I'm from Halifax as well!
I don't have anything to say really, just get excited when I see people from the area.

Re: Wintering Nucs - When to start feeding?

I have an additional question. If one was to start feeding trying to get comb drawn out, would you feed 1:1, or 2:1?

Re: What Have You Learned This Season?

I learned all kinds of things as this is my first year, but still feel like I know nothing.

Most notably: Try really hard to not get stung in the face.

    Re: Organic honey?

Doesn't seem possible. I think a lot of people will say that you can't label your honey as organic, but you can label it as no chemicals used in hive.
You would have to own all the land and not...

    Re: beekeepers in nova scotia

Everywhere says to start with 2 colonies so you can compare them. From my very limited experience, all of mine are wildly different. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

    Re: beekeepers in nova scotia

    Hey dan men! Welcome!

Rob, I'm originally from NB, but now live in NS. Welcome, and I'm glad things are going well!
  10. Split using frame with queen cell and bees from another hive.

I have one hive that I recently did a cut down split from. They are now raising queens on 3 different frames.

I would like to take one of these frames to make a split. Unfortunately, I don't...

    Re: Mold in my feeder

I was using city water and it does have chlorine, but I think the feeder was empty for a while, and it was wet and raining for a week. The mold isn't in the bottom of the feeder, but in the top/on...

    Mold in my feeder

I have a top feeder, and I had it on with the inner cover above it (so when I took it off, the bees couldn't get in easily).

The top feeder is this type:

Now both the feeder and the inner...

    Re: My First Swarm!

Haha! I never really took notice that it was a maple tree.

I hope that the swarm is going to be okay. I was told they were there since Saturday, I picked them up on Monday, and it has been both...

I should have measured. I'd guess a couple feet if I had to take a guess at it.

    My First Swarm!

Here is the only photo I got: http://i.imgur.com/oNJd0.jpg. I was by myself and only took one picture beforehand on my phone.

Last year I stumbled upon a post about somebody who was a beekeeper. I read through it and was interested, so I searched for more resources. The more I learned about bees, the more I was...

Re: anyone getting bees from Kevin Spicer?

It is a serious emotional roller-coaster. At least for somebody who is getting bees for the first time.

    Adam,

  22. Re: How important is it that frames are perfectly square?

I am at work, or I would have uploaded a photo.

I don't think I could sand off what isn't square, I wouldn't want to weaken the end bars too much.

Going forward I will make sure they are square...
  23. Re: How important is it that frames are perfectly square?

All of the foundation went in just fine, and I think they are fairly parallel when placed together but the bottom sticks out to one side.

And I was just concerned that they will attach the bottom...
  24. How important is it that frames are perfectly square?

This is going to be my first year beekeeping.

I have put together quite a few frames, and have notices that a bunch of them are certainly not square. They still fit in my deep box, but will the...

Re: Ask An Expert: The Mite-Fighter's Dilemma

I don't think that people are claiming it to be a stopper. I think it is mostly used as part of mite control management. I imagine most people are using it in combination with other things. I think...
