Ok, here is the scoop, this spring when we inspected hives we had 5 of 6 inhabited (i say inhabited because later they are gone and may have been dwindling already during first inspection). They...
Hi just reading this thread, what is BT?
well I have found that each hive has different tolerances, I had one hive work plasticell with no coating but a split from that hive wouldnt even touch wax coated plasticell supers. Whether or not...
I would recommend considering how much comb honey you want to produce, if it is just a couple of hives, and you want to just try it out for a year, I'd go with thin surplus and cutting your own...
I agree with having a smoker lit and ready. Usually only one of my hives is agitated enough to need the smoker, but its really annoying to have to stop inspection and go light the smoker once you...
My father had a fencer that was visited by bears, they targeted the actual unit that created the charge on the fence, turned out it was making a low ticking sound, and they zeroed in on it. They...

I took powdered cinnamon and mixed it with vaseline and rubbed it on the legs of mine, the ants took off and never came back, but after awhile you would need to reapply
Hi, we had an unfortunate year, my first year bee-keeping and july1 i fractured my ankle and was in bed for July and august, so I couldnt manage the bees as well as I had hoped :). They are fine now,...
Thats a good question, a local beek here said to just remove the inner cover and the bees will clean them out, does that sound right to anyone? I'd hate to not take action or take too little action...
thats good to hear! :)
I was under the impression that rhododendron honey was also posionous or toxic as well as bad tasting, from this article that lsited some sources of possible toxic honey. Mountain Laurel is also...
I just went into my hive yesterday and found a little colony of those little black ants too, they werent on any of the combs, just the inner cover, but I dont want to take a chance. I am going to...
Hello I have a question about reorganizing the hive structure. When it came time to add a brood box for expansion on my one hive we had no deep ready so we used a super ( i think that is what they...
I am a new beek, but when I packaged my bees I misjudged the time before sundown and ended up working in the full dark, I didnt seem to have any problems, but they didnt have a hive to protect then. ...
