    Good advice all - thanks!
We've already had several days of freezing weather here but the girls are still finding nectar to bring in!

Re: Late season boo-boo. Need advice

Yes, the supers in question (1 per hive) are above and beyond the stores I have left them for winter.
    Thanks.

    Late season boo-boo. Need advice

    Hello all,
About three weeks ago I robbed my hives of excess honey so I could reduce the size of the colonies in preparation for winter. I put the empties that needed cleaning back on the hive for...
  5. Re: Why are there still so many drones in one hive?

Do you by chance still have an entrance reducer in place? I have had an issue in the past with drones still in a hive late season because they couldn't get thru the opening.
  6. Re: I've never seen a hive arrnaged like this before

Yes, I've got screened bottom boards. Think I should try solid bottom boards and see what happens?
  7. Re: I've never seen a hive arrnaged like this before

Hmmm. Do you collapse the hive down to one deep super for winter, or leave both deeps in place?
  8. Re: I've never seen a hive arrnaged like this before

I don't think they ran out of room, the two supers above the new brood chamber each have four frames with just a bit of honey.
  9. I've never seen a hive arrnaged like this before

    Hello all,
I did an inspection of my hives yesterday and saw something in one of the hives I've never seen before. The brood chanber was filled with honey (zero brood) and the medium super on top...
  10. In a tough spot for restarting my bee keeping

    Hello all,
I was gone a lot last year, which lead to my neglect of my hives and I ended up losing both. I'm supposed to pick up two more packages next week, but just found out I've got to go back...

Re: reusing wax moth damaged frames and boxes

Thanks. We will have several nights of freezing weather here in north Tx. I'll scrape the boxes clean and put all new foundation in the frames before the spring.

reusing wax moth damaged frames and boxes

    Hello,
I have a hive that died out this summer and was then over run by wax moths. Even though the wood is a bit damaged now, any reason I cant scrape all the stuff out, replace the foundation and...

    need to clean some frames

    Hello all,
I pulled out two old supers out of my garage that wax moths had gotten into. I'd like to clean them up for re-use. Is there a tool (or good idea)I can use to clean the old wax and...
  16. Re: Black Friday @ Lowes: Werner Aluminum Work Platform

Did not think of using these while inspecting the hives - but I have two that I use for just about everything else around the house. Got them last year on sale.

    Re: Mean Bees

No signs of external issues such as skunks. But I do have a 6.8 SPC with a night vision scope mounted to it, I'll be on the look out for a while.

Went back out to mow today before the rain and...

    Hello all,

I'll move some things around and see what happens.
It has been rather dry here in the Dallas area lately, but they are still bringing in nectar and pollen.

The great thing about bees is they aren't judgemental. They won't mind if you got a bit of paint inside.

Re: Swarms have been huge this year!

Still haven't seen a swarm yet! But all four of my hives are doing great so far - they are all up to 4 supers tall, one is 5 tall so I'm happy.

Re: Moving hives and keeping the bees inside

I'm no expert on the subject, but I've moved my four hives a few times maybe a couple dozen feet just so I could rebuild stands. My mentor told me years ago that all I need to do was block the...
