I have sticks and styrofoam floats in the deeper ones and in the shallow ones there is plenty of gravel but there always seems to be between 5-45 every day that need to be revived. They look drowned...
My dad came over a little while ago and I was out in the yard going around to the bee watering stations and scooping out any bees in the water. When I get them all, or a handful, whichever comes...
Seems like a harsh response to the questions. Didn't see where she had others watching you anywhere there. Many of my family and friends, when they find something that they don't understand send out...
Most definitely, I usually thump several a week off of my girls just walking around the yard.
Thanks for the tip , I just checked the Brushy Mtn. site and found it.
Does anyone know of a supplier of bulk syrup available in SC or NC?
I put a super on 2 of mine just to draw frames out. I keep tabs on them and pull them and replace them with a new one before they are completely finished so there is no syrup in them. I keep them in...
I have not been hit in the ear by my girls yet but I got 7 stings from yellow jackets inside the ear when I ran over a ground nest while mowing a few years ago.
Good luck on the split. It sounds like the thing to do. I am splitting 2 this weekend and plan on feeding if necessary but with a few more strong hives it should be worth it, to me at least.
You can beat the 4-5 grand easily. Call your local equipment rental store and have them deliver you a 60 foot boom lift. You can work from a very stable cage platform and you can get one for a day...
Welcome. I'm down here in SC but come through Mebane a few times a year. Good luck with your hive, are you planning on adding any more? I have just started this year also and have found that of the 6...
Agree with Yuleluder. Sounds like they wanted a better queen.
What time of day did you check them and find so few bees? Could most have been out working? Good luck and keep us posted on your...
I just read the link in your post. Great story from beginning to end. Thanks, I saved it to send to a few folks, hope you don't mind.
Great Idea Barry. That way some of us newbees could catch up on some of the goings on around here.
I also help out the girls when I see one down. I have picked up numerous bees and but them back on...
I keep my hives on raised stands to keep them out. I actually encourage the skunks around here, they are the best mousers you can find. I quarter an apple every other week and pitch them out around...
I am so busy fixing my own mistakes sometimes I get someone else caught up in the mix. So its so hot and dry down here you had to go to a state with 1000 wildfires going on to relax?
Just checked and the SC meeting this year will be at Clemson University July 17-19. Next year,2009, there will be a joint SC/NC meeting at York Tech. in Rock Hill SC in the spring.
That sounds fair with everything explained up front.
When is that meeting in York? Is is going to be at the Clemson extension office or over at York Tech?
Welcome and good luck with your bees. Seems we are getting more of us Carolina beekeepers here lately.
The 2 hives I have beside my house seem to act the same way whenever the new crowd comes out for their first orientation flights.
The way it was chomping on the bee I wouldn't doubt it.
I tried to grab it but it dropped the bee and took off. It flew kind of slow but I am 41 with both knees shot 1 ankle redone and still trying to get over a stroke and back injury + shoulder surgery a...
Yep, that's it. First time I've ever seen one though.
