  1. Re: Attach foundation using only wax as fastener under the top bar?

Deep frames, wired foundation, two cross wires.

    Pesticide
  3. Re: Attach foundation using only wax as fastener under the top bar?

That's how I install all my foundation...using grooved top bars.

    Re: My Cell Building Methods

Pheromones are a powerful thing. Think of the pheromones exiting a queenless cell builder…the bees pleading for a queen. Quite an attractant.

A regular excluder above with a super on top. Both nucs go up and work in the super.

Maybe paralysis. Can effect one hive and not the others. As Bernhardt asked...any twitching bees and dead with tongue out?

    Re: My Cell Building Methods

Isn't that the truth. Every so often something really stupid happens…like a virgin from somewhere else in the apiary enters your cell builder.

Re: Double Nucs, has anyone tried....

    I do. They do.

Only issue I've seen if one side attempt to change their queen. Usually fails.
  11. Re: Steel Liquefying Tank do you have one of these? would like input

I've used one for years. Bought it used in the 80s. You uncap into it…did you get the frame rest with it? Like a spike that clips to the side. You stand the frame on the spike and uncap with a hot...

    Re: My Cell Building Methods

I usually average 46 cells from 48 grafts. The number of mated queens varies widely depending on who knows what. Last year the lowest take was 80/128, while the best was 118/128. 90 something is...

Re: What's the fuss about dandelions?

The Champlain valley has a huge dandelion bloom, and I've seen 50 pound honey crops from it.

    Re: Virgin in new nuc

Yes, order a replacement nuc. I mean, what kind of nuc comes without the queen already laying? A split with a caged queen isn't a nuc.

Re: How to transport nucs 1600 miles?

Yeah, a ticket for what? Remember THAT politician who carried a dog on his roof. I don't believe he got a ticket. :)

Re: Nurse Bees in Overwintered Hives

Read Randy Oliver's bit about vitellogenin on his site scientificbeekeeping.org The wintering beers are chronologically old but physiologically young.

Re: A little frustrated with Dadant

I had the same problem but it was with the foundation, not the frames. Of a 2000 lb. order of deep foundation, 200 lb. was too deep. Dadant replaced it.

I like Koehnen's 3 hole cage with the curved top. No stapling. I don't like plastic.

    Re: Fluvalinate in wax

I tried to find out from Dadant how high the levels of contamination are in their foundation. The answer was "Below the acceptable levels."

Anyone know what the acceptable levels are?
