When making up nucs how long is it recommended for the nuc to be queenlees before adding your queen cell and is there any need to go through the hive looking for queen cells the bees may have started and destroy them or will the new queen take care of that when she hatches?
What's recommended, I don't know. I give them however long it takes to get frames out of the old hive and into the new one. I use push in cell protectors. And make sure the old queen isn't in there.
Usually I just make the nuc and put the cell in at the same time. If I have the time, I sometimes make them queenless overnight. That is probably ideal, but I seldom have the time.
