Looking for some sage advice on queen rearing
As a second year beekeeper I am interested in trying my hand at some small scale queen rearing. I started with 3 hives last year and expanded to 11 with overwintering nucs. I lost one to absconding and the other to a poor queen. So far my girls are all doing fine and it is pretty chilly here in CT. We are looking at 8 degrees tonight and it doesn't look like the mercury will top 20 for the foreseeable future. Can anyone suggest some good reference material? I have searched the internet as any good 21st century beekeeper would do but I would like a good page turner. Something I can curl up with before bed while the wind howls outside my bedroom window. :-)
Thanks for the help!

One of the several good posts here.
Sorry, just read your post again. Increase Essentials by Lawrence Connor is a good read.

Classic Queen Rearing Compendium by Michael Bush is my favorite queen rearing book.
I have a copy on the nightstand by my bed, it helps me stay up all night reading.

Here is an overview of the concepts of queen rearing:

A simple way to raise a few queens:

And a bunch of classic books on queen rearing:

All of the books are graftless methods except Doolittle's Scientific Queen Rearing and Smith's Queen Rearing Simplified.

Don aka fat beeman has a U-tube video with a real down and dirty method but the most straight forward and basic of any. Or check out this web site http://www.mdasplitter.com/
