What happens to small hive beetles, their eggs and larvae during winter inside the hive? Does cold weather control or reduce SHB levels until spring?
I cannot answer your question directly, but I will offer this: I often see beetles existing in hives in the cluster in winter time. They can also be found with dead bees in deadouts in winter. I have not seen larvae in either of those situations.
I can tell you beetles live in hives all year long in VT.
