Ultra bee pollen substitute ,can I feed them some this time of year
I bought some ultra bee is it a bad idea to feed it to them now ? There is a master beekeeper here that feeds her bees a soy based pollen substitute she say mostly to give them something to do , to keep them from becomming a nuisance, she has the recipe in the news letter . Thank you . Howling winds and heavy rain and I'm 35 miles inland .
Re: Ultra bee pollen substitute ,can I feed them some this time of year
Well, I'd wait at least until the wind drops a bit, anyway!
Seriously, the bees won't use it since they aren't raising brood and don't eat pollen otherwise. They won't leave the hive much for the next few months, either, so you'd have to feed inside.
I'd wait until late winter (8-10 weeks before apple blossom or so) and feed some then as a patty. They will be raising brood then.
For fall feeding, September 1st is a better date than November 1st.

Thank you Peter , It's been so warm here I saw bees with pollen last week so I thought they still wanted it .Brian
