Any plants whose blooms produce bad tasting honey?
Are there any plants whose blooms produce bad tasting honey?
For example I have a flower in my backyard that looks like a daisy but smells like a sewer. It must be this one http://unclestinky.wordpress.com/200...e-jam-flowers/ If the bees get ahold of this can it taint the honey?

In my area it's Bitterweed that makes unpalatable honey and it is blooming now.I try to get the good honey off before the Bitterweed blooms.Honeydew can also produce some honey here that tastes like soghrum syrup and it is also produced from about now till fall.

Here in the south the Goldenrod blooms in late summer and fall. It makes an earthy tasting honey that some folks don't care for but I do.

If you get poisoned from honey from toxic plants  does that leave a bad tase in your mouth?

Perhaps the most well know toxic honey producer is Rhododendron ponticum. Due to the plants alkaloids the honey becomes psychoactive, attacking the central nervous system, poisonous to humans in the same light as cocaine and morphine, indicating that perhaps, yes, narcotic opium honey will make you woosie. Fun! Other plants of concern are Andromeda polifolia, paralyzation & death, Kalmia latifolia, death, the calico bush, death, mountain laurel, spoon-wood, and Kalmia angustifolia, sickness and death. Melicope ternata, of New Zeland, produces toxic honey that only sometimes leads to death.

Almond is very different tasting, most people don't like it.
I tried some this year from a friend who had bees in the almonds, he bottled some just for fun.

So it sounds like honey in the hive can run the gamut of flavors and maybe even make you high or kill you. How do people manage getting good honey only? Know what is blooming when?
