Hello,
This is my first post so please be gentle.
I am setting up two hives with one deep each, an inner cover, a mason jar feeder (like the one sold by Kelley), an empty deep and the outer cover.
The jar feeder sits over the slot in the inner cover, but I'm concerned that the slot is small (three or four inches long by one inch wide).
Should I expand the slot in the inner cover or is it large enough for the bees to easily access the feeder jars?

You could raise up the jar 3/8ths of an inch by putting two sticks of wood between the jar and the inner cover. Remember to check it often as a package can empty a pint jar quickly. Better yet, use two jars or just get a one gallon pickle jar and punch six or so 1/16th inch holes in the lid. Keep the slot in the inner cover as is.

The base of the feeder holds two 1/2 gallon mason jars and it is raised as you described. I appreciate your answer.
Chalk my concern up to "new guy over thinking everything".

You can also set the jars on the top bars and and cover the jars with your empty deep.
