handheld "bee-vac" modification- info?
Some time ago I was searching the forum and saw mention of modifications you could make to a $30 handheld Black and Decker type vacuum (a/c not battery) that had been given in one of the beekeeping journals.
I do sometimes let a few bees loose from my observation hive, and while it isn't a huge pain to gather them up- sometimes it takes a little bit : )
Does someone have the reference for that, or some info on how to make this mod?
Thanks!
Re: handheld "bee-vac" modification- info?
I have not found a magazine reference, but some time ago I found this poster from the U of Minnesota that details making a "sampling chamber" to put on a hand vacuum that would work perfectly to gather bees off of windows. Not that that would *ever* happen as one properly manipulates an observation hive...

Under Posters, it is the "Bee Sampling Vacuum Attachment "

Check out the No nosema found Thread. There's a link to such a device that Randy Oliver built.
