Were you ever out of sweetened condensed milk...
when you needed some for a recipe?
You can make it yourself (I can't believe I never looked for a recipe before:rolleyes:). It's a little bit of a time-consumer, but it's easy, and probably costs much less than Eagle Brand.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 1/8 cup dry nonfat milk
(This recipe makes the equivalent of a 14 ounce can)
Bring water to a boil. Add dry milk and stir well, then add sugar and mix in. Bring to a slow simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently. The texture of this mix was a little grainy, so I put mine in the blender and blended it for awhile to smooth it. I used it to make a key lime pie today and it tastes as good as the Eagle Brand makes.:)
