First be sure your hive is level. Put a half inch to 1 inch of veg. oil in the tray of the West trap. The 3 wooden strips should be nailed together and the beetle trap sits inside this and rests on the bottom board between it and the 1st super. It works well if used correctly. Post again if you need more details as a lot of us in the South are using it with success. Good luck.
Is there a top and bottom for the slat?

After a week, the trap only caught 3 beetles. I don't see nearly as many though in the hive. It seems they have disappeared. Maybe they don't like the extreem heat we have been having.
Also, does anyone know what the life cycle is for a SHB. It may be that the ones that were transfered when I purchased the hive have died off and they did not get much of a chance to lay or maybe I am inbetween a cycle.
